Besides really great project! I would like to participate but my knowlege isn't good enough yet to do back-end programming stuff.

A boot animation wasn't something I'd put much thought into and wasn't planning to do anything there, but sure I'll take a look at it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Excelent idea, keep it up man!

Also I have a different idea about that
Quote:"But wait, don't we already have Kali and hundreds of other distros that do the same thing?"
No, because there is not Linux distro that has that amazing ico on the top-left corner! Kappa

At last I would like to suggest you to turn the xfce to openbox as openbox is more lightweight and also a lot more customisable :epic: , but this is a personal opinion.

Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestion I may look into openbox it's not something I've ever used but I'll check it out and see what I think

RE: HCLinux- A sneak preview - chmod - 08-31-2014

UPDATE:

No changes to the UI yet but I've decided that can wait at least until I have checked out openbox but lots done elsewhere. I have started to install and gather tools and utilities that would be useful to programmers/pentesters. This is by no means a completed toolkit, but it's a start:

Programming
  • Geany(IDE) + geany-plugins
  • PHP + MySQL + Apache
  • Java (jre8)
  • Python3
  • Git
  • jre7
  • ipython
  • qt5-base
  • qt4
  • cvs
  • postgresql
  • sqllite
  • GEdit
  • GVim (replaces vim)

Anonymity
Hacking Tools
Reverse Engineering
Cryptography and Stenography Miscellaneous
NOTE: All linked tools are credited to their authors @Ex094, @noize, @Psycho_Coder, @Deque, @Solixious, @h3r0, @static_cast and if for any reason you do not want your work to be a part of this project let me know and I will remove it. At the same time if you feel I have missed a program that you feel should be included again let me know.

There is still plenty more to do, the hacking tool section is lacking, and will be populated soon, there will be a custom menu list containing items for each of the tools listed. I also need to set the paths to the HCTools and fix the ugly UI! As always any questions or comments relevant to this project are welcome.

@chmod include Jre6 and Jre7 as well for legacy and Python2.7.8 as well. Others should be IPython QT Shell.

Include CVS (Subversion) for Version Controlling too.

Thanks for heads up, I'll get round to it soon.

RE: HCLinux- A sneak preview - chmod - 08-31-2014

@Psycho_Coder list updated, but missing jre6 due to not being able to find it as of yet and Shell which I am unsure exactly what that is tbh perhaps you could clarify? (python2.7 was installed by default so was omitted from the list)

IPython is available for both Python2 and Python3 and so make sure you put both of them Smile

About JRE6 leave it. With the advent of Java 8, I think having Java 7 is enough Smile

RE: HCLinux- A sneak preview - h3r0 - 08-31-2014

This is pretty cool but I think you should make a little scipt (similar to OpenSUSE) that allows you to configure your OS before downloading it. I think being able to download it with a default user name would be pretty cool. This way it is a little more custom AND you aren't having people logged in as root...

In fairness you could just as easily use useradd then passwd while you are installing and have chrooted into the installation.
