RE: Protocool is here. - The Real Slim Shady - 06-05-2014 I have to question how proficient you could possibly be in most of those languages. I can spend half an hour and learn the syntax of most programming languages - doesnt make me a programmer in that language. If anyone has an alternative language that they think is better for hacking i would love to hear it.:Thumbs-Up: C is widely considered the lingua franca of hacking. Granted everyone has their personal favorite language but globally C is your base language for hacking related stuff. There are a a few reasons for this. One being the utter simplicity of the language syntax itself. It doesn't do much magic and doesn't hide the low-level details. Two, it compiles cleanly(ignoring optimizations). That is to say there is no name mangling in compilers C code as there is in C++. Not a big deal but it does matter when learning reverse engineering. Three, writing shellcode. You often want shellcode to be as simple as possible you can write in pure assembly or you can write in C which is simple enough that the compiled code will be readily translatable to shellcode. With C++ this isn't the case; it might be in some cases but if you take advantage of any C++ niceties not found in C it will likely take more work to get down to small shellcode. Four, it forces you to learn about memory. In binary exploitation(think exploiting browsers, exploiting network services, you know the stuff that gets you root...not just c99 shell on a webserver) understanding memory is absolutely essential. As what you're doing in that stuff is overwriting parts of memory in order to control the program flow. Working in a language that hides memory management puts you at a disadvantage. So basically C has for quite some time been the main language of hacking. That does mean other languages are not used but ultimately everyone who does the real work ends up learning C. We have our preferences for scripting(perl, ruby, python being the main camps) but the unifying language is C. One day I do one of them, next, next and so on..It's really hard just to remember everything and not do anymore..Its like revision for an exam. RE: Protocool is here. - $trik3r - 06-06-2014 HI ... there !!! how you do it - coding in 24 programming is awesome am studying and practicing C and it is giving me a hard time to grasp - i study one hour out of everyday ... but it just not really working out for me ... :Frown: i just want to know onw thing what motivate you ??? Break this down into steps, once you know what you want to do you should know what skills you need to achieve this (if not research them) so aim at one at a time. Get some decent reference material and stick to it reading it everyday, if you find yourself board with nothing to do pick up the book and read. Most importantly practice makes perfect, write small programs when you find yourself with free time and even read other peoples code and try to figure out how it works. Beginning programming can be frustrating reading examples of programs you don't feel like you need, but they teach you the fundamentals and before you know it you'll be writing things that do interest you just keep at it and remember 'you have to crawl before you can walk' RE: Protocool is here. - $trik3r - 06-06-2014 i understand all of what you are saying ... i just have to break it down and approach it in a different way ... am not a total newbie - i teach myself little of everything in the computer field - somethings i think thats what mess me up but i just love to widen and challenge myself and mind ... i can do a little coding in C ... honest i was say am a average C coder because i have code a software thats hide files on FLASHDRIVE'S to protect it and i can read code ... i always practice myself to do that ... its just the my i live am the only one who code in C and i have a friend who code in python ... he is one person i know wants to learn programming ... i just feel alone ... worst theirs no one to motivate me or to challenge me - i just feel bored and lazy towards it ... dont get me wrong i want to learn programming but its just too hard without motivation ... If that's the case try posting some of your code here you will receive feedback and suggestion on how to improve it (and as an added bonus you will help keep the coding section active) There are many talented C developers here who would be happy to help you improve but not in a way that they will re write your programs for you, but give you hints that you can go away and learn yourself (i.e the challenge). I would think this will encourage you to continue and with other devs here you might not feel so alone. I wish you the best of luck on journey and hope you continue, just remember just because we don't live on your doorstep doesn't mean we can't encourage you on your way. Also @Protocool I apologise on my rudeness, welcome to the forum I hope you will be an active member here. If there's anything you need feel free to PM myself or any other staff member, I assure you we don't bite (mostly) :troll: RE: Protocool is here. - $trik3r - 06-06-2014 @ chmod thanks alot you really open my eyes ... at HC i always feel at home:Heart: but now i really feel at home doing what i do best:Grin: ... you guys are the best :Thumbs-Up: THANKS FOR EVERYTHING !!!
