I knew a lot of the staff members even though it was my first conference. I was a volunteer and on saturday (after a heavy drinking night with the head of security and a few chill people.) He pretty much recruited me for that hope and any other's after. I offered to help on the day of the Snowden keynote and it paid off well. Now the OWASP party was pure luck. My german friend and I were Just leaving his room and the guys at OWASP invited us to suite 5000 for the room party where we promptly hacked the thermostat in the room to make it cooler.....after making my laptop look like someone's google chromecast (via mac spoofing)which was pretty funny x3
