I never said I wouldn't intervene if it was a person being beat did I? If the guy didn't deserve it and was properly getting his head kicked in and the guy wasn't stopping, yes I would step in.
I work in a place where I interact with literally hundreds of people a day. I constantly see dogs or children being mistreated, and if it serious enough I will say something.
