Swapping the labels makes a lot of sense. But it was not possible due to one item not having a swappable label.

The box complication: Expensive item was packaged with a non-standard box. The cheap one had a standard box.
I decided to use the standard box for the return, as it would be more in line with the story. I could have opted to use a generic box of my own and if asked make up some excuse.

I decided to not add any return papers. Adding the wrong papers might break my story.
This WIR can be marked as succeeded.
May I ask what did you WIR and what store? You can DM for safety reasons, thanks.

It was a german rather generic clothing retailer, aged acc. Initially I did not know their warehouse was german, which is why I became very cautious when I noticed.
The WIR can be applicable to almost any big retailer. It was more of a 'testing the water'.
