Not necessarily. This is explained by Azreal, and essentially through more and more experience with the two.

Eugh.
Javascript and Java are two completely different things.
Java is a compiled language that must be compiled to bytecode before it can be used, and then can be either released as a JAR or similar file, or online via an applet that works like a less shitty Flash.
Javascript is generally used to lend dynamic ability to your website via DOM manipulation and scripting. It's interpreted by the browser, or rarely by the server much in the same way PHP is, via a NodeJS installation.
They're for completely different things, and they work completely differently. The name is the only thing that they really have in common, and that can be confusing for some people.
But no, they're two worlds apart.

I highly recommend using Calico to learn python and then I would move on to Java. It just makes things a lot easier in the long run.

I understand that the thread is a bit dead, however for those curious, if you are learning Java, I highly recommend if you are familiar with programming such as C++, don't use any e-book, rather, go to the official documentation as it will suit your background better.
However, if you ARE new to programming, maybe done some scripting and minor programming here and there, but still stumble, get Head First Java. Fantastic 10/10 book for learning Java.
