It's self-explanatory: Refund on scan - scan It and get a refund.

In other words, the company (or whoever Is handling the shipment) scans the box/package and provides a refund.

This manipulation works in such a way that "special people" change the status of the product in the Amazon account to "Returned", and during this time your task is to "knock out" the refund?

I'm not referring to Insiders modifying the return process, but rather companies that offer refunds on scan assuming the return Is what It claims to be.

Quite a while back, Wayfair operated as such until they got hit hard by SE'ers. It took them a while to wake up to themselves, but eventually they got patched.
