Thanks for keeping me away from SB for a while and congratulations on your successfull SEs. The whole thread was very helpful.

I think we are at a point where to succeed with this method you must first do a test run and even then after you confirm they dont check still ensure you have a contingency in place in case they do actually check - policies change all the time. TBH you be doing this anyway...

Minimal risk If you're selective with your target.

Good job on the speakers, executed with precision. Great idea about buying multiple and leaving one open as bait. Might have to start calling you the fisherman haha.

Cash certainly is king and its far and away the best way to pay when using this in store method. Thanks for sharing, a lot of people will benefit from this.

Just got back from vacation and ready to get started. Stock market is closed today so I'll focus on the entire day on SE.

Fisherman lol, I rather be a called a quiet fish. One of my favorite quotes is "You can't catch a fish if it's mouth is closed' Smile

I did plan for the worse. I hoped for it actually. I'm wired to seek risks like that. I wanted to see how thorough they looked . They didn't power it up and just checked the bottom of the laptop for the Apple info. I can find a broken one for parts and repeat the process as long as it's less than $800. I can do it with cash. I'm curious if I can mix cash and gift card to exceed that limit. I'm leaning towards easy to open, resealable non-Apple products across multiple stores with high demand and less security precautions that's repeatable, scalable, and fun.

I think I'll stick with home speakers for now since I can find it on other stores. I have a personal Target account and notice they carry electronics too. I also out of curiosity return grocery items I bought 2 months and consumed already. To my surprise I got instant refunds on all my grocery items. Non grocery items produced a label. But getting free food by just clicking a few buttons without making a label or shipping, time involve following up is a great return on time. It's free. Just need to be patient. Target must have a strategy to keep high customer satisfaction by giving consumers the freedom to try shopping different grocery items with them. I've only heard of Trader Joe's super market being the only one who does this (just say you don't like how it tastes), you get a full refund but in person. It seems Target might be doing the same on select or all target accounts online with grocery items.

As far as contingency IF I had sealed the macbook perfectly and replaced with clay, I would have said "I never opened that box. Will I still get my refund or do I need to talk to your manager?" I'll pull out my phone and start video recording the entire experience. If asked I'll say for social media and legal counsel purposes. It's within my legal rights as a citizen to do so.." I'll keep repeating, "I never opened the box. Will I get my refund now?". If I talk too much, I could slip and say the wrong thing. More and more people are more afraid of what people say about them on social media than being afraid of real threats (like being chase by a bear). I imagine corporations could follow that as well.

If I had sealed the macbook perfectly and replaced with replica. same answer.

If I had selaed the brown box perfectly and replaced with whatever, same answer.

I sold the "amazing" home speakers locally on offerup. Pretty surprised how many responses on got the same say. I said yes to every offer I got. I cared more about getting it out of my hands rather than squeezing every penny out. I notice I made a few people happy because I accepted their offer. Also I made one contact who offered to buy more in the future. I positioned myself as a bargain hunter and I go to auctions that sell foreclosed public storage units. Another person's tragedy is someone else's treasure I told each buyer lol

Another associate swung by and asked if it was standard now to open and he replied that's what their manager said. (might be store dependent). Got my refund.

It still baffles me how the method is sold as being one of the best while presenting such high risks. You clearly dodged a bullet here my guy.

I respectfully disagree with it being high risk. Can you be more specific with the risks? Worst case you don't get the refund and go home and put the real product back in. The only risk I see is if you sold it prior to getting the refund. That's being impatient.

I mentioned in my intro, I like to think backwards. I wouldn't go into this as my first SE if it wasn't the highest reward lowest risk as my first SE that's fun.

That's why I like this method for instore returns. I get real time feedback of the process and I can adapt and proceed with another store closeby within minutes. No waiting for UPS, Fedex, and return dept and wait time to get back on card. Adapting to realtime applied knowledge using cash same day. If I'm off the mark in how I think, please advise. I'm open to criticism. I like to learn new things.

Does anyone have a suggestions, ideas, or stores they would like me to try out? I'd like to offer any help to the community as well as learn.

I know cash is king, but what about CCTV cameras, and facial recognition? If you don't hit the same store twice or multiple times, then it's fine, but if some angry/egoistic moron wants you found? I admit the chances of this happening is 00.1%.

Also, swapping & resealing with gloves is tough, especially when the glove touches the sticky part of the seal, it could damage it. I'm talking about those seals which leave a 'void' mark if tampered with. Regular shrink-wrap items with no seals are fine. Wearing gloves is an extra precaution, as not to leave your fingerprint anywhere. Ok, story time.

I recently did a legit sealed return in-store, cash. The lady at the counter called someone after looking at the amount on the receipt, 700$. A guy came and glimpsed at the item, it was factory sealed, He even felt the shrink wrap, then looked at me and said, lower your mask, I'm ''security manager'' I'll issue you a refund, but I need your ID. I never lowered my mask & told him I have a very weak immune system & what if I've covid?

I don't carry my wallet, all my stuff is in my smartphone including my government ID, so I said I don't have ID & why do you need ID for a simple return? I've never seen anyone asking for ID during a return in my entire life. He was being rude & aggressive, I said I'll give you my ID if you show anywhere such a policy posted. He said He doesn't care as He will approve the refund, since He is the ''security manager' I just took the item back, and dint wanna deal with him. While I was walking away, He told me that don't go out if you have covid. Then I lost it & became loud, I said I have covid, what are you gonna do? you are not the cops.

This store only offered returns if an item is sealed as they can't resell opened items.

Cant agree more about the effectiveness of silence, one of the 48 Laws of Power:

"Law 4: Always Say Less than Necessary: Say little and be ambiguous, leaving the meaning to others to interpret. The less you say, the more intimidating and powerful you are."

Wise as Apple products are white hot these days, pun intended.

Good cover story, I find it fun thinking up stories to tell buyers or to tell the retailer for why I am returning the item.
