PayPal should always be used when all else fails, so yes, hit the company first.

Paypal is always the last resort. I tried NF about 2 months ago and failed kinda, filed a claim with UPS, they accepted and got a refund through NF about a week later once I gave them the info from UPS and they verified.

Would EB work on Nike also I’m planning on using PayPal as a back up what are the chance I will get a refund

It's not consistent at the moment.

There are cases where It's worked with very little to no questions asked, and others going through lengthy Investigations.
