No problem at all.

I weigh just over 2kgs of dry ice and place it in the box, my local post office is less than 2 mins from my home, so within 5 minutes of packaging the ice I can have it weighed and logged in at a post office. does this seem viable or am I missing something.
What about calculating storage and transit time?

The last thing you need, Is for the company to receive your return with a portion of dry Ice.

from what I understand, it can take 24 hours for 5 pounds of dry ice to sublimate?
so given that I maybe drop the box off at my post office in the morning knowing that it won't be collected until the evening and then at the very earliest it would be delivered the following morning back to the warehouse, this in my mind leaves enough time for the dry ice to evaporate.

sound like a viable plan or am I still missing something?

also am I right in saying that the box only needs to weigh the correct amount at the time of returning it to the post office right?

Under normal atmospheric conditions.

How certain are you of the above storage & transportation?

Have you researched their procedures?

That's provided It's not taken to a depot awaiting allocation to Its destination.

I haven't researched there procedures but having posted multiple items over the years im aware of collection times that carriers collect from the local post office. also in my experience most returns here in the uk take multiple days to get back to the warehouse.

so what complication would it cause if if the package were to be taken from the local post office to the depot? are packages weighed multiple times even after dropping it at the post office? if so what complication can this cause, are you saying im better off dropping it directly to the depot? im trying to cover every angle here and I appreciate your help

^ This Is what I'm referring to with calculating dry Ice sublimation time.

Define "multiple days"?

As said, calculation of dry Ice storage time.

If they're taken to the depot, weights & dimensions are recorded to check In the consignment.

I'm saying you'd need to research their procedures, thereby you can make an Informed decision with the amount of dry Ice needed.

sorry I don't think we are on the same page here, seems to be a misunderstanding...

please correct me if I am wrong, but my interpretation from reading your guides is that you fill the return box with dry ice weighing the same as the item I had ordered so the postal log would show that there was indeed something in the box when posted.. the dry ice then evaporates and is completely disappeared by the time it gets back to the retailer, therefore tricking the retailer into thinking the item I SE'd was stolen in transit back to them. is this correct? if so, then so long as the box weighs what it should do at time of postage and it has fully evaporated by the time it gets to retailer why does it matter what happens in-between?

for example I know the ice will take 24 hours to evaporate, and the package will take 3 days to get back to amazon. so what potential issue am i going to encounter?

I don't understand what you are trying to say, you are implying I need to put extra dry ice in the package? if so why? you are eluding to the fact that there are extra complications I need to take into consideration yet you are not revealing what they could potentially be!?!?!

I've answered this, but nonetheless, I'll simplify It for you.

As said, If It's taken to the depot or at any other weighing facility and the dry Ice has already sublimated (to some degree or In full) due to a miscalculation on your part, evidently the Item Is not enclosed.

As such, the weight concludes you didn't return the Item.
It's that simple.

thanks for your time, would you say that if dropping the return parcel directly to the depot is an option, its a better route to go down?

Absolutely.

As such, you can calculate the dry Ice sublimation time a lot more accurately.
