If you are doing exceptionally well in a position after 6 months that isn't really unreasonable to ask for a raise. OP expected compensation and the company didn't appreciate their work, so that's on them. But that still leaves OP in the awkward position of being too good for the position and out of a job in their field. It's a bad situation but it's not at all OP's fault.

Unfortunately, as interns, we barely have any rights when it comes to labor. We are disposable and replaceable.

Things would be different if I was an actual engineer, but I'm still struggling to finish my degree.

I will look into unfair dismissal, but at the same time I want to end it in good terms with them so that I can get recommendation letters, if necessary in the future.

Now that I don't have a job, I'll be focusing on my studies, so that I can finish and get a proper contract.

I'm glad you've got a good outlook in focusing on your studies.

That must have been extremely frustrating. I think that's extremely poor business management for them to have such a quick turnaround from approving a raise to firing someone over affordability. It may be that you've dodged a bullet as well. Companies that raise/fire people that easily can be quite volatile to work for.

Agreed. Seems like poor management overall, if they go from approving a raise to immediately firing you. At the very least you'd expect them to renegotiate terms or offer alternatives. Chances are they'll make equally bad decisions when it comes to other aspects of the company.

Or at least thats how I look at it, if you get fucked, everyone gets fucked.

Good way to get blackballed, if you do that often enough. Much better to leave on amiable terms, with the chance of a reference.

Well said! Better to get that reference when you're early in your career as well.
