Did you question It at the time of receiving the email?

Given It was a legit return and assuming It didn't trigger any suspicion, you're well within your rights to dispute It.

It was my first ofm email, took a while to figure what it was and why.  CS would not comment on it when asked. Then I figured out it was likely a high value item that we were having issues scheduling a delivery date so I told the courier to return to sender.  Probably skewed my return ratio.

Wouldn't I just have to be close to the weight at the time of drop off at the post office/courier? Once they accept it, it gets weighed and scanned. When it starts to sublimated sitting in their warehouse shouldn't be an issue anymore. Unless you're thinking that calculations are for the ice should have disappeared before it before it arrives at the final destination.

Always allow a little extra weight for transit and storage time.

It depends how long It's sitting In storage.

Exactly, for all the above reasons.

OK so I'm a bit confused why I need to add extra for storage and transit time? I thought that when the package is dropped off at the post office/depot that they would scan & weight it into the system immediately. The weight of the laptop (assuming box and accessories) would be roughly 2kg (5lbs), according to what I found equivalent weight in dry ice would only last about 24 hrs. The amazon return warehouse is in the opposite coast, would probably take 5 to 7 days to be delivered. The dry ice would have been long gone, haha.

Almost thinking that this might not be the way to go. Hm...

That Is correct based on a direct delivery by the postal service.

However when passed to a given carrier during transit, packages are also weighed at their depot for record keeping and cost of freight. This also applies to the package being dropped off at another depot of the same postal service. As such, If the dry Ice has sublimated to some degree (or all), the variance In weight will be recorded, of which an Investigation by the company will Identify the Inconsistency.

It's a lot more difficult using the wrong Item received method through Amazon Warehouse Deals, as opposed to sold and shipped by Amazon.

Every Item goes through a 20-point Inspection prior to being sold, hence the probability of an Incorrect Item dispatched Is slim.

I was reading your website again thinking of other strategies, it seems I misspoke on this one. I actually meant "similar item" method. Using a very old laptop, similar dimensions. What do you think?

A little off-topic - but wanted to ask this:

Does waiting a few days after an order is delivered and then attempting the DNA method - does it increase any chances of success? For example, 2 business days.

No problem at all.

I've actually written an article on the "similar Item method" a while back, which Is quite effective when the return centre believes It's the same product they've originally dispatched.

Is there a huge difference In appearance to the original laptop?

I have relied on this method for certain tech purchases because I assumed that the amzn associate probably doesn't know what they are looking at.

Lol, significant. The laptop I wanted to send back is more than a decade old. Again, hoping on the fact that they are in the busy holiday season and will be likely to be overwhelmed with returns.

^ My thoughts exactly.

The festive season Is a huge advantage for SE'ers. Stores are Inundated with orders and claims, so hopefully they'll process your return without (thoroughly) checking It. If they dispute It, remain adamant that you've returned exactly what they dispatched.

Have you heard of any specific "reason for return" used that is less likely to inspected upon arriving at the return warehouse? Or is the "return reason" irrelevant to the process?
