Both.
Any tutorials on how to successfully take off the box tape without amazon knowing?

Change of mind, received the same product as a gift etc.

Purchase It and carefully tape over the existing tape.

It'll work If an OTP Is not required.

Due to the cost, I suspect It will be needed on delivery.

Had a few questions...

The fiber infused packaging tape Amazon uses is designed to essentially fuse with the box, so it's really difficult to remove without destroying the box. Would you simply tape over the existing tape, or use a sharp razor to remove as much of the original as possible?

As for the replacement tape, that eBay link is no longer available and Amazon around here uses the Prime-branded tape... Any other ideas on how to get the correct type of tape?

At the end of the day though, is it really necessary/worth the trouble to have the Amazon-box resealed? I get that the package ideally will look untouched, but wouldn't it be more realistic for a customer to check the contents before returning the item? Just to make sure they're returning the correct item for example.

I mean, would it not raise MORE suspicion for someone to return an unopened seemingly untampered package?

Correct.

If done right, It would be very difficult (If not Impossible) to spot any signs of Inconsistencies.

That was the first one I came across.

As an SE'er yourself, It's your job to research.

I can't speak for every SE'er.

Personally, If the Item Is valued at 5k, then your question Is answered.

As an example, return It on the grounds you've received the same one as a gift, or simply a change of mind.

I can think of dozens of other reasons. SEing Is all about being creative, questioning assumptions, working around the obvious, seeing what's not there and thinking outside the box. Use such attributes to your advantage.

How so?

The reasons above well and truly justify the return. Over a span of 30+ years, I've used the sealed box method both In-store and online, on hundreds of occasions - all without fail.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I hear ya about the reasons. So let's assume I'm a customer returning the item because I got one as a gift and this one is unnecessary.

Obviously if you know what's in the (Amazon) box, you can return it straight away.

But for me it's more likely I'd open the Amazon box just to check what arrived. Unless I'm not expecting anything else, it's sometimes difficult to know what item is in the Amazon box. Also maybe to check that mail was delivered correctly, out of curiosity etc.

You know what I mean?

So I'm just wondering if it's equally easy to explain away the opened/unsealed Amazon box as go through the trouble of resealing the Amazon box.

Of course I think it's undebatable that a resealed Amazon box makes the sealed method more effective in the long run. And yeah for a really expensive item, it might just be worth it to go through all the trouble.

I understand what you're saying.

I've explained everything In my previous post.

Gotcha. Thanks for indulging me, I find it fascinating how a simple "sealed box" method can actually have so many skill levels. I feel my SE tool arsenal just grew. Biggrin

You're very welcome.
