This causes a massive amount of side effects- considering testosterone is the hormone which men need to produce fertile sperm and get erections, along with and not limited to- extremely low energy levels, trouble getting enough sleep, lower bone mineral density, lower muscle mass, massively increased body fat levels, mood changes such as depression, anxiety, anti-social behaviour, issues with cognitive function (memory loss etc), blood count issues such as low iron etc, increases in estrogen production which will, in turn, lower testosterone even more (because in men, T is converted to E)- this can cause gynecomastia, hair loss and body hair loss. There's even evidence than testosterone makes hard work feel better.

Generally men don't naturally produce ~too much~ testosterone, but I've seen a few cases where men get negative side effects from producing too much (extremely rare).
All these side effects during puberty could be detrimental to a man's life- it could stop them from producing male biological characteristics, such as bone structure, muscle mass, deepened voice, higher levels of HGH than women, etc. Puberty is so important as sex characteristics are how we attract/are attracted.

It's similar as estrogen is to women, testosterone is converted into other androgenic hormones in the body, such as DHT and DHEA which then turns to estrogen. Lower testosterone and you could lower everything else. The way our bodies deal with these hormones is really cool, there's an entire system we use to regulate these hormones, for example if you exogenously suppress DHEA / Estradiol / Estrogen levels in a man, our body will increase our testosterone levels to in assumption that there is a redundancy. Cool stuff.
Hope this helps.

NoFap is a load of rubbish to be honest. Masturbation is normal in many mammals. To suggest that it's not something that should be done, is suggesting that animals, both in the wild and in captivity are somehow acting on some exogenous artificial instinct, so bogus.
Pornography is without a doubt something that we should try to limit/avoid. Many men are getting porn induced erectile dysfunction and other sexual function issues from watching porn.

As for "Abstaining raises testosterone", what a load of shit. If it did, it wouldn't be a speculative claim based on 1 study where it only raised it for 1 day then returned back to normal levels- considering getting your testosterone levels checked is something a lot of people can do nowadays, we would for sure know with absolute certainty by now if there was any legitimacy behind the claim.

The NoFap community claim to get these "benefits" by not masturbating, such as increased focus and energy- and also more attraction from women. Generally I think if a guy is struggling to find a partner but is sure that they want to find one, porn acts as a band aid solution and if you remove the porn, you will be somewhat forced to think about the situation, and act on biological impulses more. e.g. walking upto a girl, figuring out where you are going wrong, all that stuff.

Hold up, why would you want to INCREASE testosterone!? I was always very much under the impression that increasing testosterone has very undesired effects, hence why nofap is usually considered bad by sexual health experts?

I am by no means well educated on the subject though. I'd be more than happy to learn something I didn't know.

That was immensely informative, thank you. So, it seems like there's a lot of inaccurate rumours around nofap with this information in mind.

No problem. Yeah I think people just get wrapped up in these communities and spread misinformation, they think they are helping people better themselves but really it's not what it's made out to be.
I actually tried NoFap for 30 days a few years back, before I even knew there was a whole community... one thing I can definitely remember is that I was having crazily vivid dreams, around the 2nd week but then they kinda stopped. I was thinking this could be some sort of spike in my IGF-1 or HGH, as I know HGH/IGF-1 are usually connected to sleep quality.
