We've been dating for almost 8 years and some marriages don't even last that long.

I'd say that's especially true for young people. You're so much more prone to hide things, only post the good pictures of yourself etc. Perhaps it's ok to meet online, but definitely make sure to meet up IRL early on.

this is why I dont use discord.

I wasn't actually thinking of Discord at all. I meant more social media like Facebook/Instagram - AKA places where you have a bio, profile etc. Although, there's no reason it couldn't be applied to discord and other IM services. However, I'm not really sure why you need to not use discord if you're dating online?! It has no relevance what service you use, and Discord isn't a dating app.

it sounded like you wanted to see pictures of him.
personally, I am gay because, gays get laid more, duh.
hooking up with a guy is as easy as say fish. if I want to hook up with a guy I can flirt with him
and then fuck with him the same day. but social media is another thing.
not all people want to be exposed to social media through forums. and then some will feel left out,
or compelled to partake anyway. hence, my small suggestion about being able to leave your IRC in contact info.

and by the way, IRC is way more cooler than any other Cool

It is, if you only have the intention of sleeping with them. Then it's very useful. You don't have to meet up, just look at their photos and decide. You figure this out in about 7 seconds and move on or jump on it. This is how basically all our brains are programmed and we can't defeat it without some neurological issues. It's chemical and physical. I don't personally use any of these apps because of my own OPSEC. I guess sex is a very sought after pleasure in life that some people are willing to give up their security for it or don't care that every dating profile gives your information on a silver platter.

I agree entirely. These sorts of applications are full of people looking for a quick fix (and that's only natural). OP was asking about finding a supposed "soulmate", which is why I wouldn't recommend apps or forums. Doing so would be akin to asking for gourmet, but settling with McDonalds.

I'm loving that analogy. You're not going to take a photo of the McDonald's and keep it as a memory of the meal, in the same way you might at a gourmet place.

RE: Love - Drako - 06-14-2021

I'd say online dating is largely ineffective, especially apps like Tinder. A one-night-stand might work easy enough, but the chances at something long-term is slim. It's much easier to judge a person in real life. That way you're able to have a real conversation and see their mannerisms. I'm definitely not an expert on romance, but I'd like to say that's why a lot of people end up marrying people that they've gone to school with.

People are social animals. Up until about 30 years ago you were forced to find a girlfriend/boyfriend in real life. So naturally we click when we're in-person.

Actually, your post just made me have a rethink. I do know several people (even my own family) who actually met on dating sites, and have been together over a decade now. So to clarify - It's not entirely true for us to claim that you won't find anyone, but I definitely think there are better, more effective ways to find someone. If you're out doing a hobby/something that interests you, and you meet someone while doing it, I think you're far more likely to develop a relationship as a result.

What were you not happy with about websites at the time? Personally, I started using such websites after I had a breakdown in a relationship. I read /10-signs-you-should-actually-break-up/ . It was actually the best thing I read. The information helped me think about my approach to relationships. In fact, it helped me to rethink the way I think about many things in my life. The main thing is to be honest with yourself. Do not create unnecessary problems for yourself. Maybe you just have no luck yet. But it's only for now. Time will tell.
