But it is amusing to think about the drama that will ensue. Even though every scientific breakthrough worked in our benefit as in rising the quality of life. And every time there was backlash from the status-quo people who would like to keep things like they are, only to end up advocating that same technology few years later when they grew to like it (become dependent on it?). I could certainly say the same of myself! That's a very good point, though. A chance to learn is a fine thing. RE: AI Detecting Diseases - DedSpace - 02-11-2021 I knew it was possible to detect diseases using scan data with machine learning (check out the examples in the Scikit-Learn library for Python). There is also a new breakthrough in detecting prostate cancer using data from MRI scans. This use of genetics to predict the likelyhood of developing a disease is breaking. It reminds me of the film "Gattaca". Preventative care can go a hella long way, and save everyone a few pennies in the meantime. Cancers are easy to get rid of early on. The problem is when they develop and spread. Knowing about other diseases such as diabetes and heart disease make peoples' lives easier if they know how to adapt their lifestyles before their condition becomes worse. Absolutely! Not just catching things early too. One of the things I really liked about my healthcare when studying in the US, was that I could go in and get a full annual physical health check-up, which included pretty extensive bloodwork. This gives me a really good benchmark for what my numbers should look like, and I can use that data to compare to as I get older. Great way to find early signs of risk for thyroid issues, liver, heart and lung problems. Now add an AI that can use that data to predict more accurately. I never knew you could get that done in the US RE: AI Detecting Diseases - Jiggly - 02-12-2021 (02-12-2021, 07:44 PM)DedSpace Wrote:(02-12-2021, 07:04 PM)Jiggly Wrote: I could go in and get a full annual physical health check-up, which included pretty extensive bloodwork. Oh easily. I had to pay for some expensive health insurance as a requirement of being an international student. Although, when I break it down, it was about $200 per month for some pretty good cover. I got all kinds of stuff done that I could never afford/be able to do on social healthcare in the UK (where I'm from). There are pros and cons to both systems. |
