To be honest, I don't remember.
I believe the first was SEing Target In-store back In the late 80s for a camcorder, by using the sealed box method.

The employees at the customer service desk, don't bother to open It there and then, but rather place It under the counter with the rest of the (100s of) returns. They tend to Issue a refund, replacement or when no receipt Is available, an store credit to the value of the Item.

My SE journey started with eBay, didn't know it was called SE'ing at the time.
Then moved over to amazon, my first big SE was probably the PS4. Then moved onto iPhones
