I second this, used to do wrong item by switching old and new models, now they check returns. It's better not to say anything.
If you give them reason to check and they have the availability of manpower/staff, they will check the return.

sounds like a good method to get a product out of warranty fixed. Any advice taking off the stickers well?

Do note that there's no rush whatsoever and you have "all day" to peel the stickers, so use the time wisely and be very gentle throughout the entire process.
