Surly saying the airpods weren't in the box is shifting the blame up higher to apple leaving it out of John lewiss control?

You're using the missing "Item" method, hence the "Items" were missing and not the entire box.

As such, John Lewis Is responsible.

Partial is your safest bet seeing as they don't weigh much. Just order the item you want (AirPods in this case) then order a cheaper item you don't want or care about. Job done. If worse comes to worse, just ship them back as a normal return, nothing gained, but nothing lost either.

When was your last john lewis order? They have implemented something called a CFF (check for fraud) practices to all new customer service reps. It makes it so only supervisors can choose their own outcome even if it goes against their TOS.
However if they are easy for you, you are doing something right and I applaud you.

SEing (In terms of refunding/replacement) predominantly relates to manipulating and exploiting the human firewall, thus If your method Is formulated and executed effectively, the company Is of little significance.
