I made a mistake and "failed" a keyboard warranty SE etc etc and even so i ended up SE'ing a £20 bank transfer credit to help "go towards the cost of the broken keyboard", because i knew i had to settle and i managed in some way to correct my mistake and kinda get back on course. Its all about the individual and ensuring you say the right thing at the right time in the right way.

Another example is if a website sells an item that is light enough you know missing item will work thus now you know the method
You could probably be a lot more detailed etc in your research but those are the two that come to mind
