I even tested it out myself and recorded it before I shipped it out because I didn't want any sketchy business.  eBay sided with them and didn't even care about my proof.  I ended up giving him a partial refund to "fix" the product.  I didn't wanna pay for return shipment and doing an auction all over again.  Work with the ass and hope he changes the feedback, sorry man that's all you can do.

I know, a small percentage of buyers know how eBay works and how much it favours the buyer (myself included) so it will always be a tough one. If it wasn't through eBay i would have resolved the situation already. The buyer was annoyed that i was putting up a fight. Asked for a partial refund, i gave it, problem with PayPal, partial refund didn't go through, had to contact PayPal to sort that now haha. Then the buyer says she wants to return the item, after days of not replying, buyer says the bottle was half full. I looked at the weight on the receipt and started laughing. I know the weight wouldn't match but eBay would STILL side with the buyer. If she wants to return a half bottle of fragrance, then it's reaching me empty or i'll fill it up with water. I kind of want her to return it to see if i can SE an SE, would be very interesting, i'll have nothing to lose as i can't sell a half empty bottle of fragrance.

If the buyer tries to use a bs excuse to SE (or even a legitimate issue) you just file a claim under insurance stating the item must have messed up in transit. For your current situation, it would work perfect. The perfume was full when it was shipped so it must have leaked out during shipping. Usually you get a refund and the buyer has to ship the item back to you (if possible) in order for them to receive their refund.

Just a tip, if you're selling something as new, don't take any of the packaging apart. Even if it's just a strip of plastic/tape, leave it on there or invest in a heat gun and start practicing. It only helps your case because you can prove it was untouched when you had possession, so the fault is turned to the buyer / shipping service.

I usually send stuff over £200 via Special Delivery. Maybe i should do it for everything i sell over £100. That's the thing, sometimes if i SE or refund an item, i have to take convincing photos which involve removing the packaging. I end up just putting in the description "outer wrapping removed to take photos and check contents" the item is still new, but i know what you mean. If i had the craft to add the packaging back to the item then i'd definitely do it.

I'll just use scare tactics from now on in the description "Photos were taken inside the Post Office prior to shipping" "all items are electronically tagged and serial numbers can be provided to prove authenticity"

Any rubbish that sounds good and convincing i guess. Hahaha

Don't complicate it man. Why risk compromising your eBay account over this ? You might just have to take the loss :/

Yes that's true. I wouldn't even be bothered if i hadn't been left the feedback before the situation was resolved, that's what's pissed me off. I'll try and get eBay to remove it once the partial refund goes through or the buyer sends the item back.

As far as reapplying the packaging, you don't necessarily have to use the same plastics/tape that came with the package. Any thicker sheet could be wrapped around the bottle, cut to fit, then slightly heated to compress and seal it around the bottle. It does take a little practice, but it's not difficult either. It wouldn't be hard to use items you already have lying around the practice with so you can give it a shot later when the situation arises.

Scare tactics are always helpful as well. It won't help you from getting scammed, but it will definitely deter the less experienced ones from trying. I usually throw in clauses like "Buyer pays return shipping", "Returns are subject to inspection prior to issuing a refund", etc. as well. So cheaper items tend to not get sent back because it's not worth their time and returning costs.
