It sounds a bit dodgy on your part that you would end up in an SE forum for a legitimate claim. But let's say you're being honest;
Amazon's usual process for a missing parcel is for you to contact the Police, there is absolutely no way around this (regardless if you're SEing or it's a legitamate claim). I've never known the Police to care much past the initial report, so I can't imagine they'll visit the property you are in or follow up on it.
Amazon just want to avoid as many refunds as possible so put these 'obstacles' in your way. As far as I know, as soon as you have a Police report stating what you've stated, they'll process the refund for you as they have no choice.
From what I'm told. Amazon don't even follow up Police reports. I don't even think they check the crime numbers/references. I've heard of people in here using the same crime report for several items.
edit:
I forgot to mention, when you file the report, do not indicate that your room mates could have stolen it because they could possibly then come to your property and interview your room mates. Be adamant that your room mates do NOT have the package and that it couldn't have been stolen by them, even though, lets face it, it probably was.
Yea. I was googling how to avoid a police report. Been on multiple reddit threads and sooner or later it led to this site.
Oh well. Guess i have no choice but to go to the police... i have read on other forums that i could try emailing jeff. Would that work?
I've seen people email Jeff and one of his team can sort you out, but unfortunately, since you've not complied with company policy, they'll probably ignore you. The police report is just a standard step to take when you didn't receive the parcel.
You have a genuine case with the Police, it'll literally take 10~ minutes to do, as long as you mention that the parcel has been intercepted at some point from when it was delivered to your door, to you actually getting to the door, making sure to mention that your room mates are not the sort of people to steal a package from you (Mention you've had several packages that have arrived perfectly fine and your room mates have never stolen one).
Simple, easy process. Since it's a legitimate claim, you have nothing to worry about, surely?
Actually no, I've had a roommate lose a package before too. That is why I specified ROOM 1 on my address. I guess that didn't work well. This is the first time I ever ordered anything online to this address.
Yea, I will get to it!

I'm gonna call your bluff and say you've tried to do the refund but have been told you need a police report now your but hole making chocolate buttons....?
I have 100% no reason to lie. I get nothing from lying - the results are the same: I need to fill in a police report. Like I said, I dont want to aggravate my roommates. Its a poor relationship already. I was just trying to avoid filing a police report and it eventually led me to this site.
Genuinely sorry that I can't be of more help but honestly, it's a painless process, as long as you give your room mates an alibi, they have no reason to question your room mates or attend your property.
The Police will completely forget about your case about 15 minutes after you receive the report. It's an insignificant case to them, it's literally a waste of time for them to pursue your case, unless you've some hard evidence of who stole the package. After all, you can tell the Police that you're not looking to pursue the case, you simply require a report to give to Amazon to explain that the crime had occurred.
