Which programs would you recommend for learning initially? Photoshop being an obvious one, are there others that are easily accessible as well?
Also, do you use stock images/resources very often in your works? Or would it depend upon the project?

Way way back when I first started I would follow tutorials for tags and such.
As far as logo designs and the pen tool go I learned everything through experimentation and experience.

I don't.
Very rarely if I am doing an album cover or a tag or something I might.
There is no need for resources in logo design.

Everything I make is mine, I do not use brushes or fonts from dafont.
Any fonts I use are premium and unsaturated.
