Method #1 - "I didn't receive the package."

This is probably the most commonly used method. Go to the phone or chat (phone is recommended) and literally tell them something along these lines "I have a problem with this order. I didn't receive it." The rep will issue you a refund or replacement right away if it isn't a large order, he/she may also ask you if you checked with your family and neighbours, which in this case you just say you already did.

Method #2 - "The package is empty."

Pretty simple. "I opened the package, but there is nothing inside." You also have to mention that you already called the carrier, and they told you they didn't do anything and it was already like that when they delivered it, otherwise the rep may ask the carrier for an investigation. If the rep asks you if the package was tempered or not, say it was perfectly sealed and has no tempering.

Method #3 -Improved method of method #2

You basically say the same thing, except mention that you received the package, with your name and labels on it, your address, the item name, etc. But when you opened it you only got the packaging paper and the invoice.

Method #4 - "I received my order, but there is a different item in the package."

Only use this method, if you know what you're doing. If you tell them you received a wrong item, they will most likely ask you to return that item. You don't want that, do you? So, how does this method work? Tell them you received an item that is not allowed or prohibited to be shipped by a carrier and accepted by Amazon. What are those? Dangerous, but realistic things.

Below is a list of items prohibited by Amazon. These are the basics. Most of these are also prohibited by the carrier.

Broken glasses - You got a perfume bottle, but its broken and shattered. Also, you could say you got wine bottles or anything.

Liquid fuel - You got a small canister of butane, or lighter fluid. You asked the carrier for it to be sent back, but they refuse.

Flares/explosives - You got these and the carrier refused to ship them back.

A bunch of batteries - Same thing.

Sulphur - Same.

You get my point. Sharp, poisonous, explosive, flammable things. These are classified as hazardous materials. Now you just need to put on the act. For example, your son/daughter opened the package, and you are extremely worried and pissed off.

Bottomline, convince them that the item cannot be returned, and you disposed them immediately. Tell them that you have already reported this to Amazon that they endangered your family, too. You can also say you received a few bricks (proceed to method #5).

Method #5 - "Return method/Box method"

You get the label for returns, ship them an empty box, or a few bricks. This will work most likely, but the process is somewhat of a hassle.

Method #6 - "Trade-in method"

I haven't tried this one yet, but it sounds promising. Trade-in an item for money, when you get the shipping address, buy something off of Ebay. Send it to Amazon's address.

Method #7 - "Liquid leak method"

Personally, I think this method is horrible. Say you ordered 2 items, a nail polish, or alcohol, etc. And the other one, an electronic. Then say the liquid leaked and broke the electronic.

Method #8 - "Acid leak method"

This has been patched already and the rep will ask you to return the electronic or anything that has battery. Once you say you threw it out, they will refuse to refund you unless you talk to a supervisor and ask for an exception. The only way this will work is if you say your kid opened the package and tasted the battery acid. Tell them he is in the hospital now and you are really pissed off. Tell them you already threw the item away and you demand to be refunded.

Additional method - posted by @Skryptec

If you buy multiple small things (Like small items so they fit in the same box, i.e a keyboard, mouse, headset etc.), when you receive the package, open it and then go to live chat and then say you got the package but i.e the headset isn't in there, but you got the other stuff. They will send you the headset right away.

Trust me, I've done this with a Corsair K95 RGB keyboard. I received it in a package with a headset, mouse, mousepad, headset tags (Astro A40 TR, mhm..) and keyboard. I contacted live chat and said I the keyboard is not in the package. Then they asked for my order number and replaced it right away.

I have also done this with the Astro A40 TR headset tags.

Insights
Most orders on Amazon that are older than three months have their tracking removed. That's right. You usually see a "Track Package" in an orange button beside the order in the orders page. But that is removed if the order was placed three or sometimes six months ago. Use this to your advantage.

There are two types of SEing and investigations:
Internal - Which puts the blame on Amazon's warehouse.

External - Which puts the blame on the carrier (UPS, USPS, FEDEX, etc.). When you SE, always try your best to have a great relationship with the carrier in your place. Delivery men also work hard to earn money and feed their family. They lose their jobs after a couple of reports saying the package was tempered. Do not do that. You are a Social Engineer, not a scam artist. Big difference.

Carrier investigation - Amazon contacts the carrier that delivered your package, and asks questions about that said package. If the carrier insists it was delivered, you will not receive your refund/replacement and your request will be declined.

Account investigation - This is performed by Amazon's "account specialists" that see patterns of reocurring suspicious activity.

For double dips, the item must be sold and fulfilled by Amazon. A double dip is getting a replacement of the order the first time, then a refund/replacement again.

For large orders, be sure to have a somewhat aged account.

Be creative. Do not use the same methods again and again. Use different methods and reasons relative to the order.

If the package was signed by you upon receival, you really shouldn't say you didn't receive it.

If an order was made a long time ago, you can't always say you were in prison or in a hospital, if you made orders after that.

Address blacklisting exists, but happens rarely.

If one of your orders gets investigated, expect all your accounts with the same information like IP, name, address, etc. to be closed.

Conclusion
Amazon refunding is getting harder and harder with every passing day. If you are not confident in your skills, it is not wrong to ask someone to do it.

Good luck.

This thread is really old, and OP hasn't been around since then, you likely won't get a response from them.

Hey bro ive had an acc w/ Amazon for 2 years now, and I mostly pay £5.99 next day shipping, but I've just got £30.00
In my acc for some shoes and lynx body spray, so now I've brought another order (cat food 40 pouches, co co pops bars 50, and some chocolate,) so now it might look a bit fishy doing a live chat the next day from getting a refund,
This is my message,
Hi amazon I'm really angry well that can't even describe it!
I've received this today, and the box felt a bit light,
So when I opened the box, the chocolate was missing, And also the
Co-co pop bars only had 1 box not ! the cat food
Which only had 13 pouches and not 40 it might of been th factory fualt so now I've spent £30.00 on what?
I'm not happy I could leave a bad review but that would be crule and it might affect future purchases with other costumers. This isn't fair what are my cats meant to eat now?, we needed this for them but now they have to starve. Im not happy nor my cats I think, so please may I have a full refund thank you!
Sorry for being rude. Yours sincerely Brandon

Sounds promising did it today and success!!
So do you have any tips when they say Confusedend pictures?:
Please man,  Smile

No, I won't provide tips to help you commit theft.

Did you even read what you quoted? Send this stuff over PM or make a new thread, don't post in old threads.

I got a damn investigation opened on my $300 order when I said it didn't arrive and this is the first time I've ever tried to do this. Can someone tell me what to expect?

An Investigation Is part of company protocol, based on the merit of the account holder's actions. For example, they may try and verify your claim against their records.

Wait for a response and take It from there.

I've come across Instances where they've simply forgotten to respond.

Perhaps send them a friendly reminder, just to touch base and see exactly where they're at.
