it has its own issues, just like dating irl. different scene. lots of upfront bullshit. but yeah people do get together that way too

Yes, I've tried online dating before, and it's been an interesting experience. I think it can be a useful tool for meeting new people, especially if you have a busy schedule or if you're not frequently in social situations where you can meet potential partners.
