apple report stolen apple ID after refund? - bchen5476 - 04-16-2018

so i refunded a laptop a month ago and everything went well, i then sold it on ebay. everything was okay until today, buyer messaged me and told me that her apple ID has been blocked and she contacted apple, they told her that it was because the macbook wasn't pay for, it was a paypal chargeback as "not described" due to order number Wxxxxx. she tried to create new apple ID but same thing, her laptop works fine tho just the apple ID part, any suggestion how to fix this? they basically blocked her apple ID access to any device.

That seems unlikely. Most likely what happened was that they purchased something on their own Apple ID and refunded or charge didn't go through on iTunes or App Store. A similar thing happens on a new Apple ID, especially if they're entering the same payment details on their old Apple ID.
They specifically quoted the order number? That doesn't sound like something they'd mention due to security.

You've sold the laptop, hence you're no longer part of the equation.

Simply tell the buyer to deal with Apple.

Before you sent them the MacBook, was there anything on it?
This really is between Apple and the buyer. They don’t block Apple IDs from being used on stolen phones, and I doubt they do on Macs.

To clarify, they don't actually block anything that pertains to the phone in the state they get it in, but rather they just blacklist it from being signed with any firmware, making it completely useless if it gets reset, and obsolete in a few months. The whole Apple ID lock is just a gatekeeper on that. They use a shared key system to encrypt a challenge hash and then they use said hash to hide the disk key that is used on the /private/var partition

is there anyway to fix this? heres what apple sent her

if she returns it to me and i refund her, her ID is still blocked lol

RE: apple report stolen apple ID after refund? - sashimi0 - 04-17-2018

There'd be no way for Apple to verify that she sent back the stolen MacBook and then unblock her Apple ID.
Like the email says they'd dispute the charge, and then they'd have to pay Apple or send the MacBook back to them.

This is suspicious and them providing any information on a purchase someone else made goes against their own policies.
