Returning an item - Qlova - 02-27-2018

A zippo lighter arrived today and I am selling it, however I really like it but could do with the cash still. I am wondering if I ship an empty bag and make it look like it was tampered with. I'm thinking that if I do this, the receiver will be able to ring the shipping company and claim their money back because I wouldn't want to just scam them.

If they paid by Paypal however and said the item did not arrive, would I be able to push this onto the shipping company or would PayPal force me to reimburse him?

Is it an easy process getting a successful claim from say, Royal Mail?

EDIT: Just read on the Royal Mail site that the sender has to make a claim for lost items.

Please someone advise on this. Would it work or would it just cause a big problem and end up me refunding anyway?

RE: Returning an item - NotAFed - 02-28-2018

I think it would be a problem, unless you ship it with insurance. Otherwise I am pretty sure you'll be responsible.

Ya I would just send it to the person who bought it and buy the lighter again and try to SE the new lighter you just bought depending on where you bought it from

When you get a moment, let us know exactly what that Involves.

There may be a way to circumvent (It), or the procedure used for the claim.

Well I initially read that if the parcel is lost or damaged, the sender has to make the claim. However after reading more on the site I am even more unclear, because in places it says that the receiver can claim if the item arrives damaged. It doesn't mention anything (or from what I can see) about a parcel arriving without its contents.

The link is https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/325/~/how-to-make-a-claim

I know that they offer claims for tracked parcels, its just I am unsure on how much they investigate before compensating. The item weighs next to nothing so this isn't an issue, it is making the envelope look like it has been tampered with, because they can't accept them if they have been ripped or opened and if I reseal with different tape, they could say during the investigation that the item was fully sealed when received at the post office, but I don't know how they would find this out.

It will be pretty much impossible to SE. I don't know if you've heard of a brand called supreme, but stuff sells out almost instantly and there customer service is terrible. And I mean terrible.

Just because It doesn't mention missing Items on receipt, It doesn't mean they won't compensate for such Items.

They may well have purposely excluded that- just to minimize the number of claims for goods that never arrived. Of all SE's I've performed, seldom have I come across a company that (upon "seemingly" solidifying my claim that the package was tampered with In transit), rejected It altogether.

Do they actually state that they don't accept damaged packages?

Yeah, they do.

After thinking about this and what it will entail, I'm going to just send it. I'm trying to quit smoking anyway so maybe this will help me on a bit lol.

It would be a good experiment though to see if the Royal Mail are vulnerable. I may try it in the future, it could prove to be a good method.

By sending It off, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

It's a little harsh on their end not to accept damaged packages. Looking at It from a legit standpoint, you've sent the Item In good faith and was tampered with during transit. I don't see how an Item that was dispatched In It's proper form, Is not accepted due to something beyond your control.
Once you send It, It'll be Interesting to see the process on their end and ultimately the outcome.

I am selling it to an individual seller from Depop (A selling app similar to eBay). I didn't mean they do not accept damaged items, but if I took a ripped up parcel to my post office they would not let me send it however if from a legit stand point I took a perfectly fine package and the parcel was ripped after they had accepted it, it is their problem. This was the issue though, because if I try and make it look like it was tampered with and then take it to post office, they may decline it, or note what condition it is in.

Like you say, I have nothing to lose so I'm going to just send it, I already have received the money for it.
