Amazon claims to track serial #s - normie11 - 12-04-2017 There is now message on the Nintendo switch product page stating that any stolen packages will have their serial numbers forwarded to the proper authorities and will be shut down if connected to the internet. Can anyone with a Nintendo switch refund from the last month or two verify this? "What you need to know – This product has a serial number that uniquely identifies the item. When your order ships, Amazon will scan the serial number and add it to the history of this order. Should the item go missing before it arrives, Amazon may register the serial number with loss and theft databases, preventing fraudulent use or reselling of the item. There is no action required from you and the serial number will only be used to prevent fraudulent activity of the missing item." This may just be a new move following the $1 million incident though. Can anyone with a Nintendo switch refund from the last month or two verify this? Amazon have shifted a lot of their capital into security & fraud rather than customer based assets (customer care) as they are trying to catch up with the mass of money being handed away on refunding, compensating and replacing products on false claims. Wouldn't be surprised if they follow with this move in other electronics and suppliers, especially since they manufacture and retail their own tangible products. I can't verify the difficulty level on Amazon and haven't followed for the past 4 months, and as mentioned before in other threads Social Engineering will always be possible as at the end of the day it relys on the manipulation of the person and protocol on shift, however it definitely is becoming more of a specialised subject rather than a quick-money making alternative. Out ways the pro's and con's of the matter, and the profit, along with the reasoning of performing such act. RE: Amazon claims to track serial #s - Slacker - 12-04-2017 It wouldn't be hard to track these and other electronics to be dead ass honest. They make it company policy to scan the products serial number and then scan the packages shipping sticker. This now locks said serial to said customer. This would help prevent alot of asset losses as well as prevent the majority of the "erh mAh gawd I've never gotten me package" bullshit I hope they do implement something like this. I gurantee alot of the "SE'ers" would stop and move onto something else to "earn income".
RE: Amazon claims to track serial #s - S3xySmurf - 12-05-2017 Hmm this will make refunding/replacing a lot of items harder, Android phones may still have the ability to bypass this with a serial/IMEI change but I'm not sure about Iphones etc. RE: Amazon claims to track serial #s - Slacker - 12-05-2017 I hope this is implemented so it requires actual skill to complete these task instead of a simple Google / YouTube search lol I can't wait to read all the new member post I can see it now "How do I unbanning my serial from my attempted see from Amazon" this is going to be AMAZING! I stole $2000 from Amazon almost two years ago and it was an easy task then, no police or serial numbers involved. I honestly think that refunding from Amazon may see a sharp decline, but another easy way to commit online fraud may emerge. I really wanted to steal a new phone and some other items. RE: Amazon claims to track serial #s - Oni - 12-05-2017 Good on Nintendo, if this is true. I would worry about buying their consoles on Ebay or other sites, though. Even if it is true there's already a way around something like just load up homebrew firmware and change the S/N bypassing the block, if anyone can actually test this theory that would be great. Take a look at the Joy-Con Toolkit should be on gbatemp RE: Amazon claims to track serial #s - azux14 - 12-22-2017 got a refund on galaxy S8 brand new unlocked to any network. Amazon claim that they will de-register the device is this possible? |
