School shooting in U.S. - Synthx - 04-11-2017

So yesterday, there was a shooting at a school in San Bernardino, California. Three people including a 8 year old kid, and a teacher were killed.

Quote:Police say the gunman, Cedric Anderson, 53, entered a classroom at North Park Elementary School on Monday morning, raised a large caliber revolver, and, without saying a word, opened fire on the teacher, Karen Elaine Smith, also 53, who was his estranged wife.

I just cant grasp the reason of why people do these things. Is your life that worthless that you want to shoot up a school?
What do you guys think?

Obviously this guy is deranged, but he shot up a school just to kill his wife? Not that its any better, but why not do that somewhere else and not involve bystanders?

From wikipedia

"School shootings are an "overwhelmingly American" phenomenon, probably due to the availability of firearms in the United States,[1] and have become common place as much to be considered as part of "American culture"

Firearms are common place in cultures outside the US. Much of this stereotype actually is down to the larger media coverage in the US.

One point I would like to make: Guns may be legal to an extent in the US. However, it is not legal to murder somebody, the law didn't stop them. While accessibility is certainly a concern, there are statistics that actually show US has less "general" crime than the UK which has vastly higher restrictions on guns. On the other hand, homicide rates are higher in the US, but crime overall is lower. Interesting huh?

As to why somebody would do this - They're cognitive functional is unlikely to be considered "normal".

Thank you for your insight. If not for your comment, I wouldn't have known that murder wasn't legal...
