World Trigger - Lewd - 03-02-2017

Once again, surprised there isn't a thread for this already; pretty good anime. Don't know if you guys have already watched this, if you haven't - you should.

Synopsis:
When a gate to another world suddenly opens on Earth, Mikado City is invaded by strange creatures known as "Neighbors," malicious beings impervious to traditional weaponry. In response to their arrival, an organization called the Border Defense Agency has been established to combat the Neighbor menace through special weapons called "Triggers." Even though several years have passed after the gate first opened, Neighbors are still a threat and members of Border remain on guard to ensure the safety of the planet.

Despite this delicate situation, members-in-training, such as Osamu Mikumo, are not permitted to use their Triggers outside of headquarters. But when the mysterious new student in his class is dragged into a forbidden area by bullies, they are attacked by Neighbors, and Osamu has no choice but to do what he believes is right. Much to his surprise, however, the transfer student Yuuma Kuga makes short work of the aliens, revealing that he is a humanoid Neighbor in disguise.

Plot:
Yuma and his dad, Yugo, were fighting for a small nation on the Neighbors' side of the inter-dimensional divide. His dad is a war hero and seems like kind of a stiff. We never get a clear look at his face, which is an odd choice. This effectively conveys that he was an enigma even to Yuma, but if they're trying to set up that he might resemble someone we recognize, it doesn't work very well. Either way, Yuma seems to resent him for taking up all the attention. Then, one day, Yuma snuck out to participate in a battle he wasn't ready for and was mortally injured. Yugo sacrificed his own life to revive his son, creating a Black Trigger that allows Yuma to live through a Trion body. However, this means that Yuma is permanently eleven years old. He also inherited his father's side-effect of lie detection, exacerbating his already flippant attitudes towards authority. Yuma was subsequently guilted into continuing the war effort in his father's place, achieving victory at the cost of his total disillusionment. (Although, once again, the emotional impact was ruined in some shots by giving Yuma his =3= face during serious moments. At least they didn't make him look like that during his father's death.) He came to Japan to see if Border has the capabilities to revive his father from the Black Trigger, and when he learns that they don't, falls into quiet despair. Yuma, sensing his friend's pain, gives him a new reason to live by asking him to join Chika's quest to rescue her friend and older brother, and they form a new Border trio.

Characters: (Main)
Osamu Mikumo
Yūma Kuga

Graphics:
8/10. I'd say it's pretty average, but I like it anyways. Pretty much the same as every other anime.

Overall:
8/10. Definitely give it a try, it's worth watching. A pretty good anime.

RE: World Trigger - Aeolian - 03-02-2017

I'm currently looking for a new series to watch, I'll actually give this a go, I usually watch 3-5 episodes before deciding if I'll watch the rest of it.

I'll update this post once I've done so! Thank you for the review.

Yes, that's what I usually do so.
No problem, it's a pretty good anime in my book.

RE: World Trigger - Oni - 03-02-2017

A couple years ago I saw a number of episodes with some friends. I enjoyed the few I saw, but it got a little too sci-fi for my tastes. Might give it another shot.

Yeah - I enjoy sci-fi's a lot, but sometimes it gets bland, so to please the viewers, they focus mainly on rushing the plot rather than let it play out.
I get what you mean when you say it got a little too sci-fi.

It definitely went from 0 to 100 really quick. I went off to play a game and an episode later I was too far behind. My friends enjoyed it, though. Biggrin

Have any of you tried it?
I myself haven't watched the series in a pretty long time, so yeah.

Bookmarked, will watch whenever I look through my bookmarks.

RE: World Trigger - MiS - 03-24-2017

Great series, it's a shame the anime dropped off in the middle of the story. Manga is definitely worth reading if you liked the show and want more.

Something that happens way too often, to be honest.
