Had quite a few friends watch every episode, just wondering how long would it take me to watch all episode + is it really a good series or is it overhyped?

I personally loved the series, although it was mostly because I was very new to anime and didn't have much to base it off of.
I personally skipped all the filler, with already a couple hundred episodes I couldn't stand them, I started out liking them and you really couldn't even notice the transition into them, however later in the series like right now during the final fight we're just on the tail end of like 2 months of filler before the final 2-3 episodes, so it's really fucking annoying when it's like that, but you could always read the manga anyway.
Overall I'd say the animation is quite shit, it's ok for the most part, but im some scene's it really falls apart, however in others it's amazing. eg:
SERIES SPOILER::: (You'd be fine watching it as you can only recognise one character and it isn't really a major plot change)
^One of the best fight scenes in the series imo, great music too
But the character development in the series is on another level, after watching the series grow for so many years they start to tie things in that you watched maybe a year ago or so, and it even feels nostalgic watching some of the ending scenes that are being aired now.
The plot is amazing also, it's equal if not greater than the character development (if you don't consider the filler). Everything eventually comes together in one big fight, I've read the manga and can confirm the ending is satisfying.

Personally i loved the serie, you should take the time and watch it from the beginning (Naruto+Naruto Shippuden)

Watch it from the beginning, but skip a huge part of the fillers. 90% of them don't add meaningful information to the story and a lot of them don't even have anything to do with the story. As for how long it would take to watch it..
There are a total of 670 episodes of Naruto and Shippuden combined, each lasting about 30 minutes each. That means the total amount of hours needed to finish the series as it stands right now; 335 hours or roughly 14 days in total. Personally I'd just recommend you reading the manga if you are a fast reader, seeing how you can finish it on around 2-3 days. ( Roughly 16-30 hours depending on how fast you read. )

Yes do it I love it so much it has many feels but many many fillers as said, you'll love it.
