Quote:The Pirate Bay founder, Gottfrid Svartholm released and re-arrested by Denmark Police, to be sent back to Sweden

The Danish police seems to be playing a little game of hide and seek with the Pirate Bay founder. As soon as he emerged from jail in Denmark, Gottfrid Svartholm, one of the founders of Pirate Bay, was arrested yet again. He was arrested just hours after his release based on a arrest warrant issued by the Swedish authorities. He is now expected to be extradited to Sweden where he would have to spend at least four more weeks in prison.
Gottfrid Svartholm aka anakata founded The Pirate Bay along with Fredrik Neij aka TiAMO and Peter Sunde in Sweden. He was arrested in Cambodia in 2012 and extradited to Denmark to face charges of hacking into CSC.

Svartholm was was released on parole on Thursday after completing his prison sentence in Denmark, however, he was re-arrested by Danish police several hours after his release. It turned out that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service had issued an arrest warrant for Svartholm in June 2015, reports TorrentFreak.

Svartholm is to complete the whole sentence back in Sweden where he has been convicted for his participation in the founding of the Pirate Bay website. According to TF, he has around four weeks of prison sentence remaining in Sweden. It also reported that Sweden wanted Svartholm to serve the rest of the sentence in Denmark. However, the Danish authorities declined the request, thus forcing the Swedes to issue a warrant demanding Svartholm’s re-arrest and extradition.

Svartholm’s mother told TorrentFreak that both Swedish and Danish authorities had failed to inform her son about the situation properly.

[This was] never communicated properly to Gottfrid, neither from Sweden nor Denmark. We found out about it on our own,” Kristina Svartholm told TorrentFreak. “Tuesday this week, two days before his release date [which was officially communicated to him only some two weeks ago]Gottfrid was informed that the Danish prosecutor had decided that he should be handed over because of the warrant,” she added.

Svartholm has appealed against his arrest and potential extradition to Sweden on Friday morning after he was re-arrested.

He can't catch a freaking break. From what I understand, his problem seems to be that instead of going to trial once for a bunch of charges in one country he has to do it in multiple countries, in effect maximizing his senctence.

Why is he jailed for being one of the founding fathers of TPB? I was under the impression that it was completely legal because the files aren't saved anywhere on their servers and Swedish copyright laws were basically giving out the middle fingers towards every other country out there.

Man that sucks, he's in legal battles literally 100% of the time. Must be more than stressful.

On a business standpoint, The Pirate Bay has done damage to lot's of companies. Imagine how many downloads they've offered over the past few years and how much money that's taken away from music labels, film companies, etc, etc.

I think TBP is a fantastic site and I do use it but I can't be upset when the owner is arrested.

Hopefully TBP will continue to exist for years to come.

Explain how downloading copies of something damages anything? It's not stealing either because they're copies, people who didn't buy it weren't going to buy it anyone. Also the fact that TPB is not the only site of its kind and they themselves haven't done any harm other than offer the equivalent of a library that everyone can use for free to share files.
