Steps to Prepping - Earth - 05-18-2015

Why Prepare?
Preparing is very important for multiple reasons some of those reason include wars, natural disasters, invasions, etc. Many people think none of that can happen to them or there country but lets face it, it does happen. Many people have died in these situations because they were not prepared and had no idea what to do. If people have prepared there could have been less deaths and innocent lives taken away.

Many people say what if nothing happens. My answer is what if it does and you have nothing to help you get by or skills to help you survive. I would rather prepare then sit in denial and die.

Take these as examples:
Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, The damage in the Philippines. The earth quake of Nepal, The Tsunami of Japan. The solar flare of Canada, The ice storm in the US, Tornadoes, Iraq, Afghanistan, Isis, 9/11, The list goes on.

Food
Food is a very important part of preparing without food you will die and you will need to have at least some to help get you through until you can sustain yourself. Canned goods last for a very long time, some were found over 100 years old deemed to still be edible so go to save-a-lot or or your local store and get some cheap off-brand canned goods. Do not pay extra for name-brand all cans are canned the same way and have the same steps so name brand does not mean it will last longer.

Also rice in buckets with mylar bags and oxygen absorbers can last many years, dried beans can too. It won't hurt to do 5 or 10 buckets of each to have something different here and there other then just canned goods.

Water
Water another very important part of prepping and without it you will die. If you live out of town in the country or woods setup a rain water collection system. Stock up on cheap brands of purified water because it will last for years. If you live in a city, town or suburbs then purified water would be the best bet just in case you have to pack up and leave fast.

Shelter
If you do not have a shelter or place to take cover then you may have to build a shelter there is a variety of shelters you can build in the woods my favorite being the lean-to. You cannot just stay out in the middle of nowhere without a place to rest.

Plan
You need to make plans now obviously it is not possible to prepare for every scenario so you should choose a scenario you think is more likely to happen in your area and make a plan for it more then likely the preps you have will help you in all scenarios. Setup camps and bug out locations in secret places, find safe zones and places you think would be very hard for people to find.

Keep it on the low
Do not go around bragging that you are a prepper to people near you, only tell people you can truly trust such as family because the last thing you need is some random neighbor coming up and trying to kill you for your preps. As cold as this may sound you may have to deny people from joining your group and it may come down to having to use deadly force.

Gear
You will need gear to help you survive now I cannot say what to get because it all depends on where you live. What you can lookup is the 10 c's of survival by Dave Cantabury and use that as a base and build up from that.

Will Power
Without will power you are as good as dead and might as well take a gun and shoot yourself in the head. You have to want to survive, you have to be able to push your self beyond your limits and keep fighting and keep going even when you body and mind is telling you to stop.

Deaths & Loses
The hardest thing that can happen is loosing a loved one in your family during a scenario and it can be hard to recover but you need to move on and remember that if a loved one dies they would want you to continue on and try to survive.

I WILL ADD MORE TO THIS LATER, IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO ASK THEM AND I WILL ANSWER THEM THE BEST I CAN.

Don't forget about a tin foil vest. You'll need that so the surviving government officials don't control your body and organs, when they find out that they have no control over your mind. Granted that you are already wearing a tin foil hat.

I got a big bag of weed, a large pizza, and a 240sx with a full tank so I'm good.

In all seriousness doing even minimal prepping is a good idea. We had an incident in my area a little over a year ago that resulted in most of the city and surrounding areas being without power for a period as short as about 3 days, and some areas as long as 2 weeks. Crews were brought in from a number of surrounding states to try and expedite the process. Many were not ready for such an incident, and after the first day the situation began deteriorating, resulting in stolen generators, stores without basic supplies, no heat, no water, no gasoline, the list goes on. This isn't a po-dunk hick town or anything either, this is a major city in the state.

Being a "prepper" doesn't involve crazy end-of-the-world bunkers. It's about "being prepared," nothing more nothing less. Some folks take their prepping to an extreme level, some have a few days worth of extra food and water on hand. At the end of the day, it's better to have a plan than to try and sort it out after the fact.

There was an ice storm when I was little it knocked out power and we were without heat, food, water for days before the power came back on. It could of turned deadly but luckily we had extra blankets and we all slept in the same place to use body heat.

if we were prepared then it could of been a better result.

There is no need for bunkers or million dollar preps, minimal is better then nothing I would rather see people at least have some minimal preps and have a better chance then non and either dying or having to steal and possibly end up being killed for it.

Having a crazy high tech bunker would be awesome, but it's definitely a good idea to just stock a few days worth of supplies in your basement just in case something does happen.

Fantastic list, as always; and definitely a good idea ^^ The 10 C's you bring up are probably the best base for building a good equipment pack. Also, some simpler medical stuff is always good to have; you don't want an infection just because you wrapped it with a leaf Tongue

I got a first aid kit but I need to add more to it, it is no wheres near finished. I might lay it all out and take a picture but as of right now its so simple.

Here is a picture of the first aid kit:

The blue kit is stuffed with extra things I just did not feel like laying it all out.

I need to stock up on surgical tape, ace bandages, pain relievers, Advil cold & flu, Antibiotics, Suture kits, etc.
