Installing Linux or other OS on Windows8/8.1 - ShawnReynolds - 09-09-2014

How would I install other Operating Systems on a Windows 8/8.1? I have never installed Operating Systems before, so I do not know how to do it. I mainly want Linux and OSX.

Thanks,
Vallex Koten

Hey there, @"VallexKoten".

I don't completely understand what you're asking here. From what I've read, you actually want to install an operating system within an operating system? If that's the case, I think you're talking about setting the OS's up in virtual machines from within Windows 8.

Or were you thinking about dual booting? Please be a bit more clear with your question so we can try to provide the most helpful feedback possible.

Sorry, I meant dual booting, I have tried Virtual thingies before, but they never seemed to work for me.

Your lack of basic terminology concerns me, although duel booting isn't particularly hard messing it up could leave you with an unusable system. My advice to you would be to hold off and learn to install an OS in a virtual machine as well as learning to properly partition a hard drive and configure grub (or other boot loader) before attempting this as like I said you could end up messing up your computer loosing all your data.

My suggestion is that before messing around with the partitions on your computer, make a bootable usb drive.
I have linux that i use by booting from the usb.
