dropping out my study - Xe.4 - 12-05-2013 Should I drop my study? I had much experience with programming before I started university. my university education system teach me really slow C and C++ in 2 years, they are not even standard C/C++. They also teach a lot of language like Java Vb.net ASM etc. should I drop my study and take all my time studying about a specific language. because i find that i better study myself than getting lectured. guy what your thought? dropping out my study - Xe.4 - 12-05-2013 Should I drop my study? RE: dropping out my study - joeb12 - 12-05-2013 University computing courses is not supposed to be about learning C, C++, VB or anything like that. It's supposed to be about the fundamentals of programming (memory structures, OO, procedural and so on). The idea is that you learn the fundamentals that apply to all programming languages and you do that by learning how to program in different languages. In my experience most people only realise this a year or two after completing their degree(s). I guess it depends on why you're in University. RE: dropping out my study - The Real Slim Shady - 12-05-2013 Entirely up to you. Most places a degree is highly favoured and you'll more than likely lose out to lower quality coders with better certifications. That said i know people that work in the industry without qualifications but this is usually through contacts and the ability to provide a quality portfolio. The degree would also teach you other skills as well, im sure. It cant be 100% programming? It should include the boring stuff like project management, software development cycles, etc that will come in handy when you enter the industry after graduation. Itll also get you used to things like deadlines, reports, etc. Up to you. But if you have the money and will stick to it, id recommend a degree over self-taught. In the interest of employability. RE: dropping out my study - unnamed - 12-05-2013 Why don't you do both? It can sometimes/a lot (depending on your university) be a waste of time but in the end you will get a degree and learn stuff that otherwise wouldn't know on your own. RE: dropping out my study - Xe.4 - 12-05-2013 THanks, for giving opinions. I will reconsider. RE: dropping out my study - Xe.4 - 12-05-2013 THanks, for giving opinions. I will reconsider. |
