Extremely sad.. :( - Solixious - 03-02-2012

I'm really very sad lately. My first semester results were announced few days ago and I've spoilt them really bad because of my own faults. I even failed in Physics. I hope I do well in this ongoing semester to make up for the last one. My days are going really bad currently.. Sad

I left school 2 years ago. I think about it every day, if I had this one chance, to get back the time I have lost...
It realy hurts.

I know how it feels. The only man that can do something about it, is you. Well, I didn't. Now, my time is running out.

you know what? fk phsychs! i just don't get why people have to study other stuff if they know what career they want to have!

like a IT guy studying bio? or chemistry? does that even make sense? O_O

I could explain it as the "Backup plan" Biggrin If you fuck up, so you can choose different career.

I hope I do it well when I get the supplementary exam in December this year. I really hate the part that I have to study useless subjects..

It makes perfect sense if you're studying because you want to know more about stuff, because you like knowledge not because you can monetize it (that's just being spoiled by capitalism), but because of the knowledge itself. I myself like virtually any area, though I can't fully focus on all of them because there's just not time, but I'm always glad when I learn something new. Even if you don't use it, it's always nice to know how it works.

Plus, you would be surprised how much the areas are actually blended and how concepts from biology can be even applied in IT, so yes, it makes also perfect sense if you want to do it as a job. For example, neural networks, that are modeled after biological ones have awesome abilities because they can achieve high parallelism for functions, where you don't need to analyze every last bit of data (they work as function approximators) and because of their ability to learn, so they are often used in computing when doing artificial intelligence or analyzing pictures and such. They also help us to understand better how our brains and nervous systems work in general, so it's beneficial for both guy who specializes on IT and who specializes on biology.

There are more areas where they blend, such as DNA computers which use specially designed bio-molecular machines to perform various operations on input data on very low scale, not to mention that they share other traits of regular DNA, such as self replication, which makes manufacturing more structures much easier. Not to mention quantum computers, that use knowledge both from IT and (quantum) physics.

You can even use physics in IT, for example when writing various simulation programs or creating a game that uses physics, or when programming control software for some machine, it's very beneficial to understand various phenomenons, including these that you encounter in everyday life.

Simply put, various areas of science are not isolated and unrelated, they are related very well and share a lot of concepts and they help each other a lot.

Dont worry old pal... U will do well next time... Just dont let the result affect ur confidence..

RE: Extremely sad.. :( - Reverence - 03-04-2012

I have no problem learning, it's just that I'm extremely lazy when doing the actual work. I ace my tests and the teachers hate me because I don't do my work. Sometimes I think that homework is just designed to waste your social life. Besides, school isn't really necessary for success, it just ups the probability of you making something of yourself. Also, the American educational system is flawed, if you live in America.
