Ultimate Skyrim Modding Thread - Wonder - 01-05-2014

For some reason the links don't work, so here's how to get to the websites:
1. When you click on it it will look like this:
http://%27http//www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/37347/?'
2. Take out the %27
3. Put a ":" in front of the "http"
4. Profit???

I have been playing Skyrim on PC for about a year now after switching from the console version. While the vanilla games are the same (except for graphics), the modifications you can make to the game bring a night and day experience when compared to the console version. If you have the resources at your disposal to make the switch, take my advice: DO IT.

If there are any mods you guys would like to see on here just post them below and put what category they would go under. I will be adding mods frequently and i would love to see what you guys have to add.

This is a list of some of the best Skyrim mods (in no way is this all of the ones you should have, there are 100's of good ones). This will be divided up into sections depending on the function of the mods that the mentioned section contains.

First and foremost you will need SKSE (Skyrim script extender). This will create a new launcher for you to use and is required for a lot of the mods you will use to work.

Now go get BOSS. BOSS is a must have if you are planning on using a few mods. It makes sure that you have a load order for the mods that won't crash your game or give you any annoying bugs. Install you mods with NMM, then run BOSS to keep it nice and tidy.

Now head over to the Skyrim nexus and grad Nexus Mod Manager. This is your go to program for downloading and installing mods. When you download mods from the Skyrim nexus you will have an option to download them straight to the program where they will be install automatically.

Resources
Check out these places for some more of your Skyrim modding needs.

Skyrim Nexus: This is the ultimate place to download your Skyrim
Gopher's Youtube Channel: This is probably the best place for Skyrim modding tutorials, if you are ever having trouble or your game is crashing then check out some of his videos, they will help you a lot.
Gamestop: Use this to find some of the newest mods, always helps me when i am getting a bit bored.
Reddit: Yes, reddit has an entire section just for Skyrim, I've linked a very helpful thread which has helped me in the past.
Steam: Steam workshop has TONS of stuff on it, great if you have Skyrim on Steam.
Halo's Mods: Skilled modder.
Haishao: ^^^^^^^^
Skyrim Gems: Great modding site updated daily.

Now onto the mods!

General fixes and improvements
These are ESSENTIAL, they will only help you on your adventures through Skyrim. They are MUST HAVES.

Unofficial Skyrim Patch: This fixes 1000's of bugs throughout Skyrim that Bethesda might have missed, you need this.
Unofficial Dawnguard Patch: Fixes the bugs of Dawnguard. Only for those who have Dawnguard.
Unofficial Hearthfire Patch: Fixes the bugs of Hearthfire. Only for those who have Hearthfire
Unofficial Dragonborn Patch: Fixes the bugs of Dragonborn. Only for those who have Dragonborn.
Safety Load: Fixes those pesky infinite load screens. If you use a lot of mods then get this.
Double Cursor Fix: Fixes when you alt+tab and get stuck with two cursors. If it hasn't happened to you, trust me, double cursors SUCK.
Simple Borderless Window: Skyrim sucks if you alt+tab a lot, this fixes that. Now it's not windowed mode, it's boderless mode, allowing Skyrim to almost run in the background while you look up a tut or check out a youtube video.
Auto Un-Equip Ammo: No more walking around with arrows on your back while wielding a sword, when you put your bow away your ammo goes with you.
Hialgoboost GPU Upgrade: Helps those of you who have games that constantly lag, allows much smoother gameplay.
ShowRaceMenu Precache Killer: With some console commands you can bring up the race edit menu, this fixes that and makes it much more accessible.
Better Dialogue Control: Does exactly what it says, gives you better dialouge controls specifically for the PC (the original ones fit console better in my opinion).
3rd Person Dual Wield Animation Fix: No more jittering while dual wielding in 3rd person
Skyrim Stutter/Shuttering Fix: Does exactly what it says, no more shuttering while the game seems to be running just fine.

User Interface
These mods are highly recommended to any Skryim user, but the changes they make will not be for everyone.

SkyUI: Major overhaul to the menu's of Skyrim. A huge improvement to make it a lot more PC friendly. Highly recommended.
Immersive HUD: Mod made by Gohper (yep, the guy from earlier). This allows you to toggle the HUD when you want it and when you don't.
Less Intrusive HUD II: Allows you to toggle what you want and don't want on your HUD. Great feature if you want to only see things like health, stamina, and magicka only when you need them (not the only feature).
A Quality World Map: Major improvements made to the map, now including roads!
RaceManu: Gives a much more in depth race menu, allows much more customization to the character.
EZ2C Dialogue Menu: Adds a lot more functionality and features to your dialogue menu.
Categorized Favorites Menu: No more scrolling through everything you might have in your favorites menu.

Immersion and Realism
Some of these might not be for the average Skyrim player, these can add entirely new aspects to the game, sometimes adding a new realm of difficulty.

Interesting NPC's: Add's 100's of new NPC's to the game all fully voiced. Great mod to have if you're looking to add some new people to talk to. Now has a few quests to go with it.
Convenient Horses: Adds horses to cities, it's not like they should only be at the stables.
Footprints: Now you leave footprints in the snow!
No Spinning Death Animation: What do you think it does?
Player Headtracking: Now, as you look around in 3rd person, your head looks with you.
Wet and Cold: NPC's now have rain hoods when it is raining and have an animation for their breath when it is low enough temperature (when it's snowing).
Clanking Armor: Now, as you walk, your armor clanks (i'll admit, it can get a bit annoying).
Even Better Quest Objectives: Adds better quest objectives to a ton of quests.
Frostfall: Adds a whole new cold weather/wet aspect to the game. Dress warm.
Guard Dialogue Overhaul: More Dialogue, More Realism, More Respect. This Mod alters the Guards' Dialogue, changing it from something that breaks your immersion in the world of Skyrim to something that actually increases it. All in THE ORIGINAL VOICES and fully compliant with Skyrim Lore.
Immersive Patrols: Adds fully functional, scheduled patrols of almost every major faction across all DLCs, including Stormcloaks, Thalmor, Imperials, Silver Hand, Werewolves, Dawnguard, Travelers, Merchants, Bandits, Forworn, Skaal, Redoran, Reavers and even Rieklings without over cluttering the world. Now also includes a Warzones like plugin with fort capture behavior.
Hunterborn: Hunterborn changes the simple routine of kill-and-loot on animals into something more immersive.
skyBirds: Real flying interactive perching bird NPCs for Skyrim.
Birds and Flocks: This mod will add in dozens and dozens more instances of birds that fly away when startled by either the player or another creature.
SkyTEST: This is a complete overhaul for all the wildlife in Skyrim. It is designed with immersion and compatibility in mind. This mod does a fantastic job of making the wildlife in Skyrim a lot more realistic. Wolves will sometimes travel in large packs, different animals are now meant to be aggressive in the same way they would in real life, carnivores will go hunting several times a day and many more changes that make the wildlife of Skyrim seem real. Combined with Hunterborn, Frostfall, RNAD, Wet and Cold, and Footprints, the immersion of being in the wilderness in Skyrim is unreal

Game Overhauls
These are major changes to the game. Something new if the game started to seem boring!

Skyrim Redone: This is a MASSIVE overhaul for Skyrim that alters nearly every aspect of the game. Read the mods description for a better idea what the mod does. One thing to keep in mind is that this mod is completely modular, you only need to install the parts of the mod that you actually want.
Requiem: Another huge overhaul, check the description on the nexus.
Skyrim Unleashed: Aims to rebalance level scaling to create a more "epic" experience.
Complete Crafting Overhaul: Adds some different aspects to the crafting realm of Skyrim.
ACE - Combat Skills: A large overhaul to the combat of Skyrim. Like Skyrim Redone, it is modular.
SPERG - Skyrim Perk Enhancements and Rebalanced Gameplay: Wow, that's a mouth full. In vanilla Skyrim, some skills are much harder to level than others, and some perk trees are near completely worthless. SPERG fixes both of those things by adjusting skill leveling rates, adding a number of different sources of skill gain for some of the harder skills to level, and completely overhauling the perk trees.

Visual and Graphic Enhancing Mods
Add a new "color" to Skyrim... Literally.

XCE: Huge character enhancement mod, very noticeable in game.
Etheral Elven Overhaul: Ethereal Elven Overhaul is a comprehensive revamp of the elf races of Skyrim. It alters every aspect of their facial features to a more appealing look, while remaining faithful to the original work and striving for realism. EEO also affects every elven NPC in the game and comes with new presets.
ApachiiSkyHair: Adds some anime-esq hairs to the game (actually look pretty good). Required for a lot of add on followers.
Superior Lore Friendly Hair: Where Apachii Sky Hair adds new hairstyles to the game, this one redoes the original hair styles. It's great for if you want to use the original hairstyles, but all the NPCs use the original hair, so it improves the hair of everyone in the game in a lore-friendly way.
Climates of Tamriel: Weather system overhaul for Skyrim, tons of new weather patterns and systems.
Enhanced Night: Retextures the night sky to be something nicer to look at (nicer than before at least, before was pretty nice too though).
Enhanced Blood Textures: Makes blood look a lot gorier and have a much... bloodier feel to it.
Book Covers: Adds a ton of high res book covers to the game that replace the old, worse ones.
Radiant and Unique Potions: Give potions a more unique look to them.
Unique Booze Bottles: Same as the potions, not the same old look to booze bottles anymore.
Skyrim 2k Textures: Possibly my favorite mod here, a huge texture improvement to the game. IMO a must have mod.
Skyrim Flora Overhaul: Makes all of nature look a bit better (actually a lot better).
WATER: Makes water look more... watery. Huge improvement to water and flowing systems in Skyrim.
Static Mesh Improvement: A lot like 2k textures but with objects, great mod.
Better Dynamic Snow: Gives snow a much better look.
Quality Snow 4k: Another snow mod, gives a great, powdery look to snow.
HD Dragon Replacer: Gives dragons a much better look to them.
Enhanced Distant Terrain: Makes distant terrain look a lot better and gives it more detail.
Realistic Lighting Overhaul: Great lighting fix for the game, gives the light a much more realistic feel.
RealVision ENB: A great ENB, gives the game some AMAZING looking graphics, make sure you have a powerful computer though.

Cities and Villages Enhancements
Here you'll find mods that will improve the look and sometimes layout of the cities and villages of Skyrim.

Town and Villages Enhanced: Great compilation of some mods to help the villages of Skyrim look a lot better.
Inconsequential NPC's: Adds a lot of random, non quest important NPC's. Just some people to talk to and add some population to the game.
Riverwood Redux: This Mod aims to Expand Riverwood, add extra houses, extra NPCs,
and add more Environmental Atmosphere, and adds a player house with a minor quest.
Populated Cities Towns and Villages: Now each city, town and village in Skyrim has new respawnable (with different faces and clothes) generic NPCs, with own AI packages and daily actions.
Populated Forts Towers Places: PFTP adds new Bandits, Forsworns, Warlocks, Necromancers, Skeletons and Thalmors to Skyrim Forts, Towers and some places originally too empties.
Populated Dungeons Caves Ruins: PDCR adds new and respawnable Falmers, Dwemer Spheres, Dwemer Spiders, Chaurus, Wolves, Skeletons, Frostbite Spiders, Necromancers, Warlocks, Vampire Thralls and Vampires to Skyrim dungeons, caves and ruins (total n. 42 vanilla locations).
Open Cities of Skyrim: Opens up the cities of Skyrim so theres no more pesky load screens. Also, you can ride your horse through them (I think)!

Gameplay Mods
These will change the way you play the game. Things like spell packages and even an alternate start are soon to follow.

Achieve that: Adds some achievements to the game so you can feel a little more accomplished.
Alternate Start: Gives you a ton of different options to choose how you start off the game, no more repetitive Helgen start.
Apocalypse Spell Package: Adds a ton of awesome spells to the game.
Skyrim Uncapper: Uncaps the level so you can finally fill up all those perks.
Run For Your Lives & When Vampires Attack: Both of these fall under the same user, RFYL makes people go inside during dragon attacks and WVA makes people go inside when... guess when... when vampires attack.
Dance of Death: Adds a ton of cool kill animations to the game, also you can toggle how much a specific kill animation happens.
Stones of Barenziah Quest Markers:I think you can guess what this does.

Quests and New Lands
Check out these mods if you want to do some more exploring around Tamriel.

Falskaar: Possibly the biggest user created add-on to date, Falskaar adds over 20 hours of gameplay.
Helgen Reborn: Adds a new questline where some people try and bring some life back to Helgen!
Wyrmstooth: Travel to an island, fight a dragon, you know, the usual.
Skywind - The Resurrection of Morrowind: Pretty much trying to bring Morrowind back with Skyrim graphics. Very ambitious if you ask me.
Shadow of Morrowind: This is very similar to SkyWind in that it takes place in Morrowind, except Shadow of Morrowind takes place in Morrowind at the same time as the events are happening in Skyrimj, instead of going back in time to how things were during the Morrowind game. It's also similar to SkyWind in that it's not finished yet, but it is being worked on, it was just updated the 15th of this Month (December 2013).
Moonpath to Elsweyr: Another huge mod which takes you to the home of the Khajiit, Elsweyr.
Inferno - Envoys of End: A fantastic quest mod for very late-game characters that is full of powerful magic and very difficult and rewarding boss fights.
Undeath: Uncover a small new questline that will take you to the frigid peaks of the Dragontail Mountains themselves, and beyond, as you pursue a powerful necromancer and his followers, and thwart their plans to acquire powerful artifacts and ingredients for an unholy ritual.
The Paarthurnax Dilemma: This is not actually a new quest, it's actually a fix to the main quest. Without giving anything away, this basically gives you a very important choice where before you had none. You want this mod.
The Dark Brotherhood Resurrected: An extension to the Dark Brotherhood quest line for those who don't want it to end.
The Elder Scrolls Quest Series: This is a series of 5 quests made by ThirteenOranges. They're all on Steam Workshop and they're all very highly rated.

Armor and Weapon Mods
Add some armor and weapons to your game.

JaySuS Swords: Adds a ton of new weapons to the game. 51 to be exact.
Immersive Weapons: Again, adds a ton of cool weapons.
Immersive Armors: Adds a ton of cool armors to the game.
Isilmeriel LOTR Weapons: Doesn't add just any weapons to the game, these are LOTR weapons! Great weapon pack.
Magicka Sabers: Be the Jedi you always wanted to be in Skyrim!
Winter is Coming - Cloaks: Add a ton of cloaks for the NPC's of Skyrim to wear.
Cloaks of Skyrim: Same as Winter is Coming but with more cloaks, this is also required if yu plan on using Winter is Coming.
Bandolier: Adds wearable bags that increase your carrying capacity. Very nifty for those who don't focus on Stamina.
Unique Dragon Priest Masks: In vanilla Skyrim all the masks had the same texture, this mod gives them their own original feel.
aMidianBorn Book of Silence: This is a large mod with retextures for almost all weapons, armors, and creatures in Skyrim.
Deadly Dragons Armory: This is an optional plugin for Deadly Dragons that gives dragons more loot that you can collect and craft into epic armor.
XAC - Xenius Armor Compilation: XAC adds several armors that are non-skimpy and look amazing on females, this mod is perfect for those that play as a female character, but want protective, feminine looking armor.
Better Bows: Adds a few very good looking bows into your game.

Miscellaneous
All those mods that couldn't find a slot in the previous sections.

Moonlight Tales - Werewolf and Werebear Overhaul: Werewolves have always been a great addition to the adventures of every Dragonborn in the world of Skyrim. However, there was still a lot of elements that could have been improved. This mod aims at making being a werewolf a much more immersive, atmospheric and fun experience.
Glowing Ore Veins: This mod serves to make the game's ore veins much more visible,
especially in darker environments.
Customizable Camera: Allows you to customize the 3rd person camera.
Wearable Lanterns: Adds a craftable, wearable, Travel Lantern that can be hooked onto your belt, or carried in your hand.
WARZONES - Civil Unrest: Adds a ton of warring NPCs in many locations across Skyrim, so now you can see battles between factions like the Imperials and Stormcloaks and participate in them!
Bellyaches New Dragon Species and Ohdaviing Replacer: This mod adds thirteen new, non-replacing dragon species into the world. There are around 50 new dragons in the world for you to encounter. These dragons will respawn after you kill them, but it will take some time.
Better Vampires: This is a very well-made mod that adds a much needed diversity to the dragons of Skyrim.

YES. Trust me, you'll be playing this game for hours on end even if you have already played it a ton on the console. Very, very good purchase.
