Heavy Item/Coffee Machine Refund - Brunello - 09-28-2023

Hi everyone,

I have already refunded heavy items back in the days when Amazon was “a piece of cake” and refunds in general were way easier. Since then I always tried to avoid anything weighting more than a couple of kilos.

I am now after a coffee machine, which should be around 7/8kg probably even less.

I have done my due diligence and I found one on Selfridges which should give me the ability to send it back in case of failure.

My idea is, since it comes in a branded double box straight from the manufacturer, is to “replace” the coffee machine with few bricks and then contact the shop.

Since they receive the items already packed from the producer’s warehouse
, it’s impossible for them to know who and when the machine has be replaced.

Any feedback is welcome!

Just some general information about Selfridges I've come across.
.They have CCTV in the packing department
.They ship with DPD and DPD always get good proof of delivery photos
.They seem to be bad at refunding legitimate claims so you'll need some luck on your side for this to work.

I'd say go for it and see what happens. Like you said, legit return it doesn't go well.

Hey,

Thanks for the info.

I didn’t know they were pretty bad at refunding people.

This can put me a bit off since the return period is only 28 days, i believe they won’t be able to “fully investigate” at get me a proper answer/refund in that time.

DNA will work on an aged Amazon account.

Alternatively you could look into PP UA? I'm not sure the exact tutorial but essentially you age your pp account then using a different ip and device you attempt to login and place the UA order to a different address. There's services for this if you're not capable like myself.

Since it’s only a small order (less than 500£) I don’t feel like it’s worth using Amazon, which I use every now and then only through my personal account.

The PP UA idea it’s nice, but still, too complicated for something so cheap.

Selfridges have a bad rap.

Little update, after sending pictures of the content of the parcel (some stuff I found in my place covered in a plastic bag) they told me to write a cover letter and return it as faulty.

I will try to replicate the size and the weight, maybe with some bricks and send it back.

I am not sure if should add a fake note from the manufacturer and hide it somewhere to increase the chances of a quick refund.

Did you go with Selfridges or somewhere else? Are you claiming they’ve sent you something other than the coffee machine? Your reference to them asking you to return the item as faulty has confused me somewhat.

Yes, Selfridges was the chosen store.

Yes, that’s the method I’m using. Since they were no able to see the content of the box I am blaming the manufacturer for this.

I was confused too, and thinking about it, I believe it was a way for CS to avoid doing their job. I have actually started to think I should just tell them there’s some sort of battery inside to just skip the return process which, given the weight I should match (around 7 kilos) can be costly and time consuming.

What did you say was in the manufacture’s box? Another product by the same supplier?
