In progress of pulling off an SE on back market, they mentioned “whoever took the item will have it blocked” is this true or are they just saying this?

Blocked from warranty repairs, maybe. There's nothing they can do to a laptop that would make it stop working, from afar.

Unless they activated Absolute Security (which costs a f-ton of money) or it's an Apple Laptop then they can't do shit. Look in the BIOS and see if Absolute is active. Also, format the PC and reinstall windows. After you do that, they can't track or disable the laptop in any way.

there is no way to block a laptop maybe if they have some security stuff built into the laptop like built in programs that some manufactures include
i think that if you format windows you should be good to go as that would eliminate the risk of having a program installed by the manufacturer installed i think

Thanks for contacting Back Market. This is Valentina from Customer Care, and I hope this message finds you well! I’m so sorry to hear that you haven’t received your order yet and that it didn't require signature. Since the tracking information shows that the delivery was successful, I'll request an investigation from the seller. Often when this happens, the order was delivered to a neighbor, or someone else at your address such as a family member, roommate, co-worker, or receptionist. Could you check if this is the case? Please note, that the seller will block the device you ordered so that it will be useless to anyone who might have taken it. However, it can take several days to unlock the device. So, I would strongly recommend that you check with anyone close to you to save yourself the trouble if it’s then found.

Nonsense.

What are they going to block remotely? Access to the net or other forms of communication generated from your device?
Impossible.
