Does PEB with AMAZON still work ? - EquitableEngineer - 12-13-2022

I am trying the SE a CPU but I am not sure of the exact weight. I have a boxed intel i7 9700k here which i weighed and came in at around 115g which is within the PEB weight restriction but the CPU i am after - the i7-12700KF - is physically bigger than the 9700k meaning it will weigh more.

After working out the percentage difference in the size of the CPUs themselves it seems the one I am trying to SE is 20% larger, so adding 20% to the 115g i got for the 9700k brings the estimated weight to 138g.

Is 138g still possible to do using PEB on Amazon?

Can you not use the box method for this? It is a high value item after all, should be easy to do that + you can keep your old CPU in case they check.

Are you planning to return i7 9700k instead? You are claiming PEB, but which item are you gonna say is missing?

I could potentially box it but if PEB is viable then that would be less effort. I plan to buy a motherboard and the CPU and say the CPU is missing because the weight is very close to the PEB threshold. On the contrary I seriously doubt that initiating a return and putting the wrong CPU in there would get past Amazon.

It's pushing It to Its limit, but the Increase In weight Is minimal, so It's fine.

Do amazon typically require a PR for a PEB claim ?

Given most of their reps struggle to spell their own name, a PR for a PEB/EB claim Is requested quite often.

Can you recommend a retailer where I can PEB a CPU with a lower chance of being asked for a PR ?

Amazon is probably your best bet tbh.

Avoid the following:

* Amazon
* Apple
* Walmart (For anything above $499.99 cad)

The majority of others are less likely to request a PR.

That being the case, who sells PC components but does not have CCTV apart from Amazon?
