If you use the search located here, you can try "VPN" or "free VPN". Likely, you'll find your answer in the results.

Moved from Antivirus & Protection to Anonymity.

For web browsing, use Tor. I can't recommend any "free" VPNs, because they're all bullshit. They're basically spyware with the amount of data they collect on the user.

@Drako the only free VPN I will ever recommend is Riseup and that's because it's not just a service, it's an activist network dedicated to freedoms of all kinds and backed up by the decades of work behind it. It's for the people, by the people, and have a proven track record of sanitizing the network of logs, metadata, and virtually all data that's useful for federal governments or other threat actors with legal backing. They encrypt everything. I've seen the FBI seize a whole rack from their server network and not have a single bit of useful information to use in their investigation. But this isn't an ad, so I hope you know I'm just using them as an example that not everything that is offered to the public without cost is bad. You should always research an organization before trusting them and you should always assume they're compromised when considering your threat model. Nothing to hide but nothing to give up either.

As long as you are not conducting illegal operations I feel that ProtonVPN can be useful for non sensitive activities.

I am sure they log, and will cooperate with LA if you are acting criminally, as did ProtonMail recently. Though that guy, wasn't using a VPN. You get a free VPN account if you already have a ProtonMail account. Just log into the VPN with said Mail credentials and DL, install. Nice thing is they have three free regions, USA, Japan, and Netherlands IIRC. ProtonVPN also works on many platforms, windows,

linux, mac, android, etc.

Though remember, if the service is FREE - YOU are the product.

I do not recommend using a free VPN!

I feel Mullvad is pretty damn inexpensive at $5.50 / month for USA users. And being you can pay in cash, and soon Monero, I think they got a thing going for them. Reading into their laws there in Sweden, they are a 14 eyes nation, but their VPN laws differ from ISP laws. They are also privacy conscious in Sweden from what I can tell, as long as you are not planning terrorist attacks, etc. So for now at least, I feel they are 99% trustworthy, don't log other than account - payment data.

On the above grounds, any VPN service will suffice.

That is good to know. After digging in a bit more with Parrot's AnonSurf mode, and testing with TOR and without, I was ending up with questionable servers which I searched up thru various sourcing. I did some experimenting and found better servers without using TORs relay or the AnonSurf, though I wasn't being routed through the Onion. Was a learning experience and hope to pick up again tomorrow where I left off. I aim to research more into the servers used for exit nodes, from my vpn, and then the

AnonSurf tool as well just to see the difference and compare, see if one is better than the other. Seems that I was still routing through the Onion but was using Librewolf which I just installed in Parrot. I prefer that over regular Firefox. Just realizing the importance of not only the vpn service, but to acknowledge the nation's server you are using.

I would like to learn to effectively use TOR but by using two VPNs before and after TOR.

@Incognito Mode
Using Tor with a VPN limits you, by design, to specific nodes for entry. And it also doesn't allow for circuit switching (Tor does this per website to increase anonymity). But the upside is that your packets are encrypted when exiting the last (exit) node. Keep this in mind. Your encryption from the VPN to the entry relay are, however, 256bit encrypted inside the tunnel and then layered with 1024 more bits in the Tor network. It's very secure but you won't switch circuits when you visit new websites and open new connections. You should definitely research the actual pros and cons before using VPN with Tor. It's not recommended but it's still useful.

Back in the days of IRC I would use a VPN to connect to an anonymizing server such as ssh through tunneling using Tor and a socks handler (socat). It limited my connection's ability to switch circuits but was usable anyways because I didn't plan to switch Tor circuits anyway on IRC every few minutes. So Tor with VPN has its use cases. Just be sure before making the connection.
