Amazon UK SE Advice. - jamest101 - 11-10-2021

Hi,

I've been reading up on SE and decided to try a macbook pro on Amazon, costs £1.1k. Is being delivered tomorrow.

My account is 10 years old, has been a prime member for 5 years, multiple thousands spent and 0 returns or SE's in the past. It's extremely trustable. What is the best way to SE this macbook?

It's due tomorrow. it said it needs a signature or OTP code on delivery so I don't know if that rules out DNA? I also heard the courier sometimes does their own investigation and comes by your house and I don't really want that.

So I was gonna EB it. The Mac was all I ordered though, so I know the weights will be off. I was just hoping the trustability of my account and me pushing hard enough would get the SE through.

What are your thoughts and advice?

Establish which of the two Is required.

He/she has no right to set foot on your private property asking questions, nor are you obligated to answer them.

The delivery guy won’t be able to hand it over until you give him the OTP that will be emailed to you.

Hopefully someone else will reply and give you a solution as I’ve never done it when an OTP is needed, but I just know from experience, they can’t leave it, or mark it off as delivered without you giving him the OTP

It said exactly this on purchase - "Signature or one-time password required at time of delivery" so I'm not sure which one. I assume it'd be OTP for such a high value item?

Could EB not work if I say the seal was tampered with? Or does that bring up too much complications?

What's my course of action here? I'm thinking just let it get delivered, if I can get away with just signature give a fake one and say DNA. If they insist on OTP I'll suck it up and return it and try something else?

I've just gotten a email from Amazon just now saying it's dispatched and an OTP code will be needed on delivery.

Is this one done then? Can't think of anything else I can do.

After some more research I'm thinking wrong item method would be the way forward?

Weigh the box then buy some copy paper on another amazon account sent to a collection box. Swap out the macbook for that and contact CS and say wrong item. Sound good?

Yes, that's how the wrong Item received method works.

Be sure to change every Identifiable detail on the other account.

It would be my friend ordering from his account to a drop box near me. Assume that's fine?

Last question; would they not realise that the missing item was purchased on another order after my original order so impossible for it to be mixed up? I assume they scam the product code when they pack an order so surely they would know this ream of paper was purchased by x on x and work out what I'm doing?

I was thinking of just putting lose paper in there. Could easily be someone from the warehouse then as surely they'd be plenty of that around, and then they have no product code they can look into?

Apologies for all the questions; I'm just worried it'll get caught out and then I won't be able to return the mac without basically admitting I tried fraud. Don't want to be stuck with a mac I don't want lol.

Perfect.

You mean "the wrong Item", and not the missing Item.

What their systems show Is one thing, and what happens when Items are physically picked, packed and dispatched Is quite another.

The probability of that happening In a typical warehouse environment Is slim.

All good.

If you're not comfortable with the wrong Item received, opt for another method such as the sealed box.

I get that, but the timeline of events for this order would literally be impossible. The mac is being delivered today, I haven't even ordered the paper yet. So when I do, they will see the paper was packed on the 12th November yet ended up in a box that was delivered on the 11th?

Physically impossible no as the paper would need to be have been in the warehouse on when 12th when it was packed thus impossible to be in my box as it was already delivered?

As said, that's the administration/Invoicing side of things, and not when It was physically packed & dispatched.

Put simply, they'll assume It was a scanning/Invoicing error on their systems - which can and does happen In every warehouse. Without naming specifics, I experience It at work every so often with legit orders.
