Leaky battery Amazon help - bigbobby82 - 06-21-2021

Hi all, was looking for some advise on my Amazon SE of a nintendo switch (used, sold by Amazon)

I had planned to try the leaky battery method. The tablet was delivered and the same day I called amazon support and told them that the tablet is leaking what appears to be battery acid, but that it is still in my possession. The rep said someone would 'be in contact in 24 hours to tell me what to do next' - and I have just recieved an email with a returns label for Royal Mail.

Should I call Amazon back tomorrow and say that I tried to send it back, and the post office did not allow me to send back a leaking battery as Royal Mail do not allow shipping of damaged batteries? Or would it be smarter to call Amazon back and say that I disposed of the item as it was continuing to leak and i felt unsafe?

Many thanks

Yea you can try stating that leaking items and corrosive liquids are prohibited to be sent with the royal mail. My advice for you in the future would be to DNA or empty box, royal mail investigations are not good. Now to fix this, if they won`t budge and still require you to send back the device which is what most companies do, just send them an empty box or FTID. PM me if you need further support and I would be glad to help.

Good Luck !

Depending on the model, a minimum weight of 300 grams Is too heavy for the missing Item method.

This should've been done to begin with, so go ahead with It.

Be sure to use health & safety as the reason for Its disposal.

You should tell Amazon the post office said sending a faulty battery is illegal.

They'll most likely suggest an alternative carrier.

@mothered thanks for your help, unfortunately i think the SE has failed. this is my last communication: (an email sent in response to several calls)

"We understand that you've advised you've already disposed of the item[s].

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to provide a replacement or refund for this order unless we receive the original item[s] back."

I think it has failed due to my account being only a few months old with already one prior low value (although legitimate) return and refund. The return label is still available so I plan to just send it back for a refund,

Thanks any way

You can still try the FTID

The Item Is not too large so alternatively, you can box them.

@mothered
Thanks for the idea. I am a bit concerned for the success of this however - given that I have already failed the leaky battery method, wouldn't it look very suspicious if I somehow managed to retrieve the item from the waste disposal. sent it back, and it was intercepted in transit? Especially given that previous amazon reps have told me on the phone they had to 'escalate' to the returns department since it's a high value item, wouldn't they become suspicious after seeing my previous communications?

If you believe that's the case, the same will apply to your Intention below, namely "somehow managed to retrieve the Item from the waste disposal" and then return It for a refund.

At any rate, If the packaging Is suitable, you can use the sealed box method. I'm just trying to rescue your SE with every possible alternative. Ultimately, It's your call.
