In Store Pickup - Tenney - 08-05-2020

So I'm wanting to try to SE an item (high end electronic) from in store pickup. What are some techniques to SE an item after picking it up in store. I've never personally done it this way, but I'm curious.

RE: In Store Pickup - Fastera - 08-05-2020

I would imagine you can do "sealed box method", "item not in the package" (but that would depend on the item, more specifically the weight), you can claim that it is defective online after the fact and box them as well.
I would imagine many of the regular methods would likely work apart from the obvious ones such as DNA.

All that is my theoretical thinking. I have not done what you are attempting so take it as such.

I'm curious if they would actually have it in a box. They would have to ship it to one of their locations since they did not have it in the store at the time so it'd obviously be shipped, but if it is just the item itself that is handed to me I feel as though this ruins both of those methods. Defective online after would lead me to think a standard return/exchange would be offered in store. I'm not sure, so I'm hoping someone with some experience in doing the in store pickup would chime in if they see this.

Surely an electronic item will come in a box. Not a shipping box but the manufacturers original packaging.

Regarding the return/exchange that would depend on the store and if they offer customers to do that via shipping it back. Usually that is not a problem with the stores I have shopped from.

What is the item in question?

Not trying to be rude, but "item not in packaging" sounds like an awful idea. It is specifically for a laptop so there is no chance that it would work.

As I said in my first post it would depend on the item, more specifically the weight of the item. Since you have not mentioned what the item is until now it was a guessing game thus I shared what I think would work in your case.

You can read through the T&C of the store you intend to SE and find out more information about their return policy.

Yeah I apologize I should have specified that more clearly in my introduction post. Anyway I'm debating between Costco and Best Buy. I am just curious of the methods that I could even use.

RE: In Store Pickup - Green314 - 08-05-2020

I do not like the idea of the picking store, not at all.

I could be wrong (I do not think) but, remember:
- humans make mistakes, machines typically don't.
- everything that involves machines is usually (will be "always" in the future) logged in their systems, anything.

This means that may track everything you do/interact with the machine, store data and use to improve their services, and if something gets wrong the probability of getting linked at the event may be higher then the current system carrier-based since in the latter, there are more entities involves which means more aleatory variable from the company to consider, which make us live easier.

If we find a bug on the machine, this is another thing, we could exploit it, but it won't be easy to find it.

Quote:So I'm wanting to try to SE an item (high end electronic) from in store pickup.
I've never personally done it this way
It's no different to having It delivered.

As mentioned by @"thrw7878" , the sealed box method has a very high success rate. Be sure to attend the customer service counter late on a Friday, just before close of business. As such, they'll be In a rush to finalize/balance the books and get home In readiness for the weekend.

If there's a few employees serving customers, observe and Identify who's vulnerable- If It's a female teenager, then you're good to go. During your conversation, distract the return process by complementing on her fingernails/hair- but don't overdo It. Be confident, remain calm and your SE will work.

I'll be writing an In depth guide on my blog early next week.

Interesting method. Do you think they would open the package to ensure that the technology is there ($2000 or so and a 5+ lbs)?
