GOPRO 8 SE Question - UpsetPenguin - 06-16-2020

About a week ago I managed to get an RMA from GoPro, I FTID them but then being the retard I am, thinking GoPro was an easy company to SE and that I already got this in the bag, I gave them my real name and address (I know, I was high and ignored the fact I should've used a drop at least). Now though, I've been reading some horror stories about GoPro and it looks like they're well aware of fraud and they have taken actions against social engineers (not sure about this one, I just read it on another forum). Do you guys think I should continue with this one or is it too risky?

(I already gave them POP and photo of the SN, didn't even need to edit these two, I just asked a local guy who was selling a GoPro 8 to send them to me to reassure me it still had warranty)

Did you purchase the Item, and then used the FTID?

Also, what was your last conversation with them, and where does your SE currently stand?

RE: GOPRO 8 SE Question - Charonony - 06-16-2020

Yeah FTID is fine. But the fact your trying to SE them with FTID, POP and SN might get u in trouble or least raise more suspicion than usual

RE: GOPRO 8 SE Question - Parliament - 06-16-2020

Bruh, you used your real name and address and then attempted to commit mail fxraud? That's next level stupid. But it has already happened, there is no use in you trying to think about that now. As far as you know, you're a customer who is experiencing a broken product and sent it in and that's all you know. You're probably (?) fine. It seems like you're experiencing one of those things when you do something and the paranoia sets in, except you're actually in danger because you used real information and tried to do whatever.

As another point of reference, I know lots of other people have been successfully getting GoPro's without consequence.

I used to avoid giving POP and SN, but it's much easier if you just fake POP and give a SN. Most SE's will fail without them. FTID is just another method to continue the SE. I don't think the fact that he used these in particular are bad. I mean, I guess with every SE there is always risk of getting in trouble/ raising suspicion.

tbf, I'm pretty sure most people use their real info when using FTID. Most people don't get into any "danger." While I agree it isn't very smart to use real info when doing anything illegal, I don't think OP is in particular "danger." He just has to SE his way out of any potential trouble if FTID fails.

You're right, by danger I meant that there is chance of it; not that they're in it; apologies. However, I still highly advise ensuring that in the future, you make sure that your opsec for a SE is very high because then you don't have to worry about anything.

I didn't buy any GoPro myself, I just hit up some guy on a website like craigslist we have in my country and made up some shit to convince him to send me a photo of SN and receipt. I then used those things to get an RMA from GoPro (not an AR). They sent me a prepaid label, saying they would send me a new GoPro after they receive the broken one. I then FTID them and now I would just have to wait until it supposedly gets there to chat with their support in order to ask for the replacement. I still have the option to just not hit the support since the FTID doesn't link me in anyway.

Yup, totally agree. Always better to be on the safe side. Smile

Personally, I think you're fine and you should still go for it. Best case they check the tracking and send over a new one. Else, they'll open an investigation and you'll have to fight for your replacement. You can back out at any time if you feel worried with a simple excuse like you asked a friend to send a few packages for you and they mixed up the labels.
As with all things, you learn as you go. Don't fret too much OP.

I agree with you, I really thought GoPro was just one of those companies who don't give shit (being high at the moment of the SE didn't really help me in making wise decisions). But as I stated in my previous answer I still have the option to just not hit the support to ask for the replacement and even if they try to contact me I can just say it started working again

Yeah I know, I would've really got this if only I didn't use my real infos. The rest was all done

RE: GOPRO 8 SE Question - Charonony - 06-17-2020

I wouldnt admit to it being fraud

As youve stated

He is a customer who is experiencing problems with the product and has the needed information required of him to receive the warranted replacement. It just so happens when returning his broken product , it became lost in transit.

Cool Cool
