Captcha to register - Leviathan - 07-02-2019 Hey there, since there are kinda a lot of bots posting stuff in the forum I thought. that a captcha (recaptcha or something) would be nice to at least kind of prevent this. RE: Captcha to register - Oni - 07-02-2019 We do have Captcha, though we'll be adding more protections soon. Currently there's some kinks with the upgrade I'm still ironing out, but protections will come next. Sorry then But really happy to hear that RE: Captcha to register - mothered - 07-02-2019 It's effectiveness, depends on the nature of the CAPTCHA. For Instance, If It's based on viewing a 20 second video and entering a caption (series of words) In the video Itself to solve It, then It'll be very effective Indeed. In fact, It'll more than likely prevent almost every bot from registering. It was supposed to happen much sooner, but due to the extremities had to change priorities. RE: Captcha to register - XTH - 07-02-2019 Depends on the type of captcha, I'm guessing. Lots of CAPTCHA services can easily be "bypassed", usually it's like $1 per 1k captcha solves. My old website was flooded with bots, even though I had ReCaptcha in use. You just get the site's CAPTCHA key and site key and attach it to the "bypass" service. Could be wrong, though. RE: Captcha to register - Jiggly - 07-02-2019 I believe the methods Oni was looking to implement in future go beyond simple captchas but I can't say I'd know more than that. In the meantime, please ensure you are not replying to bot posts but are reporting them so staff can remove them. This ^ I've lost count as to the number of replies to bots, without being reported. I've banned around five this week alone. RE: Captcha to register - Magnetron - 07-03-2019 Just do me a favor and don't implement some contraption that will end up filtering real users among bots. So many captchas are seriously annoying nowadays. The medal goes to Battleforums which asked me which game a font was from as a security question, as if I was supposed to know. Despite guessing it right, I was rejected due to a connection error which conveniently said I gave the wrong answer. Then the admin had the nerve to give me attitude when I sent several emails asking for help with his confusing bullshit, like his choice to make a dysfunctional registration process was my fucking fault to begin with. Don't be that guy. |
