Curious if this was an SE - samboa - 09-28-2018
Before I even came to this forum/knew about SE'ing, I did the following at Best buy:
Had a $600 radar detector, it broke, went to BB and bought it again, then changed the serial sticker and returned the old one in the new box. They processed the refund (in person).
Was this an example of SE? I just justified it as a kind of 'warranty exchange.' If so, maybe I've been SE'ing and didn't even know it lol

I think this would fall under Warranty Exploitation, but still a SE regardless. Congrats dude.

Yes It was.
There's quite a bit of confusion on what truly defines the act of exploiting the human firewall. Most online sources are misleading due to either being Ill-Informed, or plagiarizing others.
For a clear understanding, read my post In this thread.

Without realizing, we all social engineer to some degree.
Whether It's creating a fanciful story to jump the queue at the local mall, telling the boss the car wouldn't start when arriving late to work or pretending to feel sick at school to arrive home early- we all SE.

I used to do the same sort of thing with Champion hoodies, spilt bleach on mine ordered a new one off another website then sent the bleach stained one back saying it came like that! worked easily.

haha I guess I've been doing SE for a long time then not even realizing it. I also just successfully (waiting on the actual money, but got confirmation) SE Walmart for $200 in colognes. easy as pie.. the first time who knows how many times
