The most I've experienced prior to that under similar circumstances, was around 200.

It'd take a month of Sundays to sift through the lot.

Although there would've also been legit alerts, I would have simply hit "Delete All Alerts".

To go a step further, there's now hardened rate-limiting on Likes which I can tweak. The site should load faster and this shouldn't happen again.
