I have been using Netbeans from a long time but never came across such a thing. Go to Window in Menu bar and select Project or press ctrl +1, see it whether it shows or not.

Netbeans from ubuntu center is very old. Don't use it.

Download Netbeans with Java 8 bundled from here : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/j...42931.html

Choose your architecture x64 or x86.

I suppose you will download the x64 one, it will be downloaded into a folder suppose Downloads. The name of the file should be jdk-8u20-nb-8_0_1-linux-x64.sh and it will be a shell file.

from terminal :-

1.) cd Downloads
2.) chmod +x jdk-8u20-nb-8_0_1-linux-x64.sh
3.) ./jdk-8u*.sh

The above will install both Netbeans 8 and JDK, you won't have any problems with any other things. Also when installing netbeans you will have an option called customize click it and choose Apache server as well.

Eclipse is very good. I have use it as well. But I like NetBeans much more.

NetBeans was developed mainly for Java. Though it has support for other languages like C++, PHP, Scala, Web etc.

When it comes to IntelliSence Netbeans makes more sense Tongue

Eclipse is like too many plugins support, often I have some trouble with the UI when changing Perspectives.

I use Netbeans for Java Projects and eclipse for little random codes. Also Java8 and best support with Netbeans and not Eclipse or IntelliJ. Java 8 and higher is the future with its awesome new features like lambdas and Streams and much more.

People really love eclipse a lot. Once someone said something and then by the word of mouth it is spread and redundant things spreads like fire. Few people who really try things on their own they would really like NetBeans.

Also most of the tutorials on web display their IDE to be eclipse and since new learners study from those tutorials they often try to stick to the IDE the tutor or blogger has used just to avoid confusion Tongue
