My friend had an error once and couldn't install backtrack (Maybe Ubuntu, but they're similar) and it turned out he was trying to install the 64-bit version onto his 32-bit computer. Did you make sure you had the right version for your system?

First of all, you should find out if you have 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit processor. Not sure how to find out, try this program if you use windows: http://everest.en.softonic.com/

If you are sure you have the right version, try to re-mount the disk. Did you burn the ISO onto a CD? or did you use unetbootin to make live USB? (unetbootin sometimes makes a mistake)

If you have a CD try to check the MD5 checksum (guides on official backtrack forum)

what version of backtrack are you using?

and you might want to check to see if anyone has the same error as you on their forums.. or at least post the actual error here..
